Has anyone put a TRD supercharger on a 2005 V8?

I feel like I have seen a lot of talk about seeing superchargers on these trucks but I don’t know who has actually done it. I have the chance to get a used one for fairly cheap so I’m hoping it’s something I could make work.

I am thinking that V8 man has a non-VVTi engine. I’m asking about the TRD on a 2005+.

How much is “fairly cheap”? Any of the TRD supercharger installs I’ve read about (and there aren’t many) have been on the non VVTI (03-04) engines, so I’m not sure if it can work for your application without some serious tuning. I’m not positive on this, but I believe that the TRD package came with a factory programmed ECM to replace the stock one. Maybe someone more knowledgeable about these like v8man can comment on that. I’d love to find one for my ‘04, but it’s hard to find a complete kit, and even more difficult finding a low mileage, good condition one. I think if I ever bought a used one, I’d certainly send the blower out for a rebuild of all bearings, seals, and oil before even installing it, so that cost would need to be factored in to see if it was a worthwhile purchase. I learned this the hard way buying a used Whipple twin screw for my Terminator many years ago. I still saved some money, but in the end, the aggravation made it not really worth it. I should’ve just bought a new one right from the start.

Ive seen one on the 05. The guy simply had to make a 10mm manifold spacer to clear some of the valve cover parts and everything else was the same. It was 'experimental' and he did change the rods to H-beam, but other than that it was not a remarkable install. Just put it on and go, thats it. The real problem is finding one complete with all parts.

Thank you guys for the responses. I decided not to purchase the Trd unit. The guy was asking $2500. URD has new Rotrex units for less if you are just buying them alone. I think the tuning would be super hard to get right and I don’t want to kill the reliability.

That leaves me to the URD kit. Now this was disapointing and I hope to learn otherwise but the Mechanic I spoke with said he really doesn’t recommend them at this point. He said that one of those URD kits came in to his shop basically seized up with only 20,000 miles on it and he was SOL on after the sale support from URD. Keep in mind that’s all second hand but it enough to scare my into postponing a purchase until I hear more as far as reviews on the URD unit on our v8 VVTi engines.
