Lucas Heavy Duty Gear Oil

Hey - I just purchased 2 gallons of heavy duty lucas oil, 80w90 (link below)...i wanted non-synthetic and have heard good stuff about lucas. there are accounts in the amazon reviews about people loving this in their 2010 tacos, older landcruisers, etc. etc. the only thing that i wanted to run by you is that this stuff says it exceeds GL 5 (GL 5 is what our vehicles are specd im pretty sure)... no worries on this or?

thanks,
Tom

There was a similar question last year and a thread to a 2007 " Gear oil ASTM & Military Test" that was quite extensive and Lucas 75W90 Synthetic ranked 14th out of 14. Granted this test is now 12 years old but I personally would not use Lucas based on those results.

The rankings from test were:
#1- Amsoil Severe gear 75W90( by a wide margin) over #2: Mobil1 Syn 75W90
3- GM Syn axle 75W90, 4-Castrol Syn 75W90, 5-Redline Syn 75W90,
6- Pennzoil Syn 75W90, 7- Valvoline Syn 75W90 … 12- Royal Purple.

I think I would return the Lucas and move up a few places in these rankings.

He's asking about Lucas conventional (not synthetic) 80W-90. Their conventional 85W-140 has an endorsement from East Coast Gear, but again that's not the 80W-90 lube.

I only run Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-110 in my 4Runner and Subaru.

Interesting and yes thats what I'm going to run. Many accounts of yotas running it and I wanted conventional. One person said the rating exceeding 5 being good but wasnt sure if anyone else runs it.

Thanks
