Inside dashboard clicking/gurgling fix

So after being annoyed for over a year by the gurlging/clicking sound from inside the dash that is caused by the air selector servo (switches position from floor to vents to defrost) it is now fixed and it took about 10 minutes

first step 1: Remove screw on right side of glove box to allow glove compartement to swing down and out of the way

Step 2: remove the 4 screws that hold in the upper glove compartment and slide the upper compartment out

Step 3: there are 4 screws that hold the servo in place, the clicking is from the arm of the servo moving up and down, simply loosening the 3 accessible screws and re tightening them has stopped the gurgling noise for well over six months now.

I have this issue intermittently and I've seen the other normal fixes for the servo but this is a new method that I'll have to give a shot. Thanks for posting it up as it's definitely a cheaper fix than a servo service or replacement.

no problem, you will see when you loosen the 3 out of 4 screws that are accessible the arm moving in and out of position will stop, then just re-tighten simple....

Like HokieRunner said, there are other fixes for this, but this one is the cheapest. I've had the same problem (when the radio is turned down ) and will definitely look at this fix tonight.

I do...I've just ignored it since it didn't seem to effect anything. Now I know how to fix it..I may just do that.

I am SOO happy I found this! The noise started the other day. I am very happy it was such an easy fix!

THANK YOU! I hate clicks and ticks in my cars!

What exactly does this sound like? I've got a weird noise in low rpms that I can't figure out what it is. And a whooshing sound at wide open throttle with the widows up.

For all I know, my truck has this issue, but my hearing is so shot and I drive with windows down all the time, so who knows?

Have to get my hyper-hearing wife to cruise around and see if she hears anything. That is, if I can get her to shut up for a bit.....

Hey guys,

My servo seems to be way more buried than yours is. Can anybody post pictures of what I would need to take out?

Same issue. Clicking intermittent.

You can check to see if it's the air mode servo by making different selections for the air (vent, floor, defro, etc). If the clicking changes, it's probably that servo.

My son forewarned me that DO NOT take the servo off. As instructed above, just loosen the 4 screws (once I did that, I "wiggled" the servo to slightly move it's position) and then retighten them. The 4th back screw is not fun to get at.

This seemed to fix it. Will put 1500 miles on it over the next 3 days to fully road test this fix.
