Rear hatch handle sticky pad

i just relpaced mine with an aftermarket one. it was original and had gotten "gooey". the mounting screws are at a difficult angle. needed an angle phillips screwdriver and lots of patience. did not want to strip those heads!

had to use a razor blade, vinyl gloves, and mineral spirits to adequately remove the melted material (not sure what it is made of). couldn't find an oem replacement, so went aftermarket.

glad i did it, but took about an hour.

What was the aftermarket part called and what brand was it? I thought the sticky fingers problem was unique to my 4runner.

i bought mine off of amazon. it was about $8. came with the replacement cover and 90 degree screwdriver. there are a number of options. you can order the switch with cover from toyota; cannot get just the rubber cover.
