Windshield trim

Windshield on my '09 was replaced before I bought it, and probably before my dealer got it in inventory. So I've been looking for the proper part number for this, and how to replace it.

Both sides need doing as they're lifted and won't reseat properly.

Any tips?

I tracked down the parts and ordered them.

Anyone replaced these? any tips or tricks to get them in smooth and factory looking?

let me know how this goes.
after my last windshield.....#4......i ordered all the stuff thinking on the NEXT windshield I'd have all the stuff on hand that i could give the installer guy. Im under impression the windshield needs to be out in order to replace all this properly.(its more than JUST that black piece on the outside)

Most likely, no need to remove the glass. On earlier models there are clips that are embedded in the urethane adhesive used to install the glass. IF clips are gone or broken same can be re-installed by using the proper adhesive without removing the glass.

Toyota components are bullet-proof. Issues often arise from poor wiring, assembly and/or maintenance. Suspect those first.
Next only to our senses, the multi-meter is the most important electrical diagnostic tool. Spend $6 at Harbor Freight or $$$ blindly replacing parts.

The vertical strips snap on to fasteners. How they attach to the car I'll figure out once the parts are in hand. Doesn't look like the glass needs to be disturbed to do the job. Guess the parts will be in, in a few weeks.

So I just went out to garage to see WTH I ordered way back when.
SO I got all the above plus I went ahead and bought the back triangular moulding that goes at the base of the trim piece at it meets the lower windshield and cowl.

BUT.....what i really wanted to say is while I was pulling my trim out of the box(that didnt sound right).......the trim is FLIMSY......and has a heavy end(roof part) and the a light piece (along windshield). SUPPORT it, one of mine just flopped out and tore right at joint where the heavy and light side come together. kinda pissed.......so BE Careful when you pull out of box.

Any additional info on installing the new trim?

The windshield trim on my drivers side detached while driving in some windy conditions in a TX highway. I've had black duck tape on for a couple months and keep forgetting to fix it!

Unfortunately, I'm waiting to hear if my truck is totaled. Guy ran a stop sign and turned left in front of me on Monday.

If the truck is totaled, I'll have some "extras' for sale including the unused new weatherstripping.

Bummer, eh?

Why wouldn't you pick up another 4Runner... ;) Keep it as spare parts in case they're interchangeable with the year of the 4Runner if you should end up buying another one

Anyone know if you can get the "chunky" exterior windshield trim/molding for a 2018 SR5? I had a windshield replaced recently and they did not put any exterior molding back on so the windshield looks naked. I see on the Tacomas and some of the other 4runners, a chunkier exterior trim and wanted to get that. The parts department at my dealership has been less than helpful.

I expect you can order online or at your local dealership. However the windshield company should make that right, it is part of the install.
