Air conditioning weird...

2005 4runner sport, v6. 255k. The climate control on this has always been fantastic, but the ac is slow to cool down on hot days and only pumps out really cool air out of the passenger vents. Relevant info is that I have slow leak from the coolant somewhere and I have to refill the resovoir every 1000 miles or so. This last time it was maybe a bit more than a resovoir down. What should I be thinking about to resolve this?

You need to have UV dye put into the AC system so a tech can possibly find the leak using an ultraviolet light, most leaks can be easily fixed and the cost will not be real bad but still not cheap.....as long as it's not a leaking evaporator, if it's the evaporator leaking the entire dash and all components, electrical. duct work, reinforcements, etc. behind it has to be remove to gain access to the housing it is in, very labor intensive, VERY, VERY expensive.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you that it's not the evaporator leaking.

Just to give an idea of what it take here's a link where it had to be done on a KIA Sportage which is very much the same as what has to be done on our T4Rs.

How to Replace the AC Evaporator on a 2007 Kia Sportage | AxleAddict

IF it is the evaporator and you choose to get it fix, also replace the heater core while doing the evaporator as they are both within the same housing and you don't want to do the same job later if the heater core starts leaking.

Both the evaporator and the heater core parts run around $60 to $100 each depending on where and what brand you get, OEM will be a lot more well over $200 each.

Rockauto sells a Denso brand evaporator which is as close if not the same as what you would get from Toyota for around $85, they have 4 different heater cores brands but none are the Denso brand.

I had the same problem and mine is also slow ever spring I have to add about half a can of Freon but it gets me through the summer. So far not worth finding the leak.

I had to replace my AC compressor on my SR% 4runner V6 at 140,000 miles. Got a Denso at Amazon for $190. Been cooling for one year now with no recharges. Use a dye to find the leak.

Compressor's don't last forever.

So I was wrong in my initial assessment. The passenger middle vent pumps out cold air right away, the passenger door vent less cool and the driver's vents not at all. There is something about how the different vents get cold air that is broken.

A/C Hot on drivers side!

Ive browsed this thread a bunch and what I have found is that its a defective blend motor.

I have a 2004 V8 Sport without the dual climate control and the driver vents do not blow cold for the first 10 minutes. It kind of sucks. After 10 minutes it blows like ice and if I restart the car within an hour it will blow cold without waiting the 10 minutes.

What's the a/c high side sight glass?

Read a lot of the suggested thread. Interesting that adding freon might solve this but I dread the idea of having to replace the evaporator.

On my 2008 V8 T4R, the a/c sight glass is behind the hood grill, passenger side, in front of condensor.

If cloudy/white foam looking.......low freon. If clear fluid flowing......freon ok.

So it's a good news bad news situation I guess. Good news is I charged the refrigerant and got cold air out of all the vents. Bad news is the glass looks whiter and foamy after being charged. Not sure what that might mean.

Hey, dvto2, hey, boys and girls. I had the same issue as you do now and I want to share with you how I managed to resolve it. When I found out about it, I tried to repair it but nothing happened, I asked my family if they can help me out but no one could do it. I even used the Internet in order to find something there but unfortunately, I didn't find anything. 3 months later, I met my friend and I told him about my issue and he recommended me to use the site of socool.sg, he said that he repaired his car by using their service. I can say that these guys really helped me, everything started working properly since then which is very good.

I had the same issue as you do now but in my case, I tried to fix it but it didn't work. I asked my family about it but they said that they can't help me out, I even decided to use Google in order to find there something about my issue but unfortunately, I didn't find anything at all, I was very upset. One day, my friend found out about my problem and advised me to use this site, it's named LKbrothers servicing. I can say that their service is great, they managed to fix my problem. Since then I've never had any problems with my A/C so you can try it out if you didn't fix your problem. Try finding them on
