Muffler Removal Help

Hi,

I have a 07 4runner sr5 and i’m planning to remove the muffler and just wanted to make sure on the method of removal. Im planning to take out the muffler itself and leave it empty for a while. I was wondering if it’ll be okay to just leave the other parts that connected to the muffler and have no muffler and drive?

@Kool-Aid , Welcome!

I ran without the muffler for a good while, so it's fine. Potential nit-picking issues:

- Does your state require a muffler for yearly inspections?
- HP loss debate, but IMO differences are insignificant as exhaust makes the difference with a full set-up and tune
- If you're disconnecting everything from the muffler and back (so no tail pipe), and you're stationary in your rig while it's running for an extended period, the fumes are going straight up and I've been told that could leak into the cabin, but I never noticed any issues
- Will you be able to deal with the noise difference on a daily basis? Again IMO it's insignificant

Why are you taking it off? And why would you not replace it? Most exhaust shops can weld in new ones for <$200

Hey @Flash Runner , thanks for the reply! My state does require a muffler for yearly inspections and in the link I provided, Part 11 - Album on Imgur , Im planning to take out just part 11 and leave the rest. Or would I be needing to take out the end towards the trunk as well?

Welding in a new muffler will be annoying in the long run get a bolt-on aftermarket I have a Walker on my gen 3. Ya you would need to remove the tailpipe as well likely. You are going to get fumes when you are not moving.
