I'm looking to replace my JBL Nav that's in my 04 Limited as well. I think I might go with the ATOTO A6 Pro Android Car Navigation Stereo. It's supposed to be a direct fit into the Toyota double din space with no need for an adapter to fill out the sides. Anyone know what I'll need to make it work with the stock JBL amp?

I purchased my receiver and install kit from Crutchfield. They recommended the Crux CS-TJ20 Wiring Interface that will take care of the JBL amp and steering wheel control. I will lose the ability to fade. I also paid them $25 to prep all the harnesses. Crux CS-TJ20 Wiring Interface Connect a new car stereo and retain the steering wheel audio controls and aux input in 2003-up Toyota-built vehicles at Crutchfield

You can also check out the manufacturers sites for their recommendations.

Has anyone installed this? It states it includes a universal harness for Toyota/Subaru, so does that mean I wouldn't have to purchase the one recommended by Crutchfield?

It's universal if you have the basic stereo. If you have the upgraded stereo with the amp and sub like the 10 speaker nav system I have, you need a harness. I'm pretty sure this one will work with my nav:

Yeah, I have the basic stereo, crutchfield recommends this harness when you purchase a receiver from them.

Same here. I was between the Sony XAV 1000 and Alpine ILX-W650. I ended up going with the Alpine for the bigger screen, rear usb, and 2 camera inputs. I have the JBL system so I will be using the PAC TATO kit provided by Crutchfield. I also read on Tacoma World that this parking break bypass is needed to access all the settings. Rear usb was a big thing for me because I want it to look clean. I plan to run the USB into the center console and leave my phone in there while using car play.

I just recently added CarPlay to my 4Runner and settled on the Pioneer MVH-1400nex

I went with it over the Alpine you posted because I liked the look of the side buttons (it kinda matches the stock system in my 2018 Civic) and I like the interface of the Pioneer better.

But the big things for me were to have a capacitive touchscreen, and USB in the back for clean install.

I also bought from Crutchfield and got them to do the wiring with the steering wheel controls. My T4R does not have the JBL system so I got the PAC steering adapter. Crutchfield did the wiring well, just note that you may have to program the PAC unit to your liking yourself. It took my father-in-law and I about 15 minutes to figure out how to program it, but we got it done. One thing that sucks is that you need to press a button on the PAC unit to program it, so your headhunt is going to have to come out to reprogram if you want the buttons to do something different.

Since we are going to use mostly Apple Carplay on this thing I programmed the buttons like this: Vol Up, Vol Down as normal, seek buttons for track next, or track last, and mode I made a long press be the voice button so Siri comes up when I hold it down.

Also, Crutchfield does not include parking brake wiring or a bypass so I had to get one of those and wire it in so that all the menus could be accessible.

Here's what it looks like installed:

and I also bought one of these to put a usb port in the console: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Then I took an Add-a-Circuit and plugged it into the accessory spot on the fuse box to wire up the power only for the other port. Works well for now with CarPlay and power
