Philip Alberti's 05 4runner build

Hey all, after checking out the forum for a couple years I finally made an account. Here's my 2005 4Runner limited 4x4. I bought it with 187k miles off my uncle in February 2018 and it currently has about 210k.

When I bought it, it had '15 TRD pro front coilovers with a spacer on top, spacer lift in the back, TC UCAs, XD addicts 17x9/-12 wrapped in 275/70/17 white lettered BFG KOs, a yakima basket rack, and a PBM shift knob. Might be missing a few things.

updated list: July 2020

Suspension: Kings 2.5 EXT coilovers in the front with the RR, Icon 2.5 shocks in the back with RR & CDCV, and Icon 2" springs.

Wheels and tires: I got 285/70/17 Toyo RTs and a banner just for fun, and plasti dipped the wheels gold up front and black in the rear. 1.5 spidertrax spacer up front and 1.25 in the rear. R1 concepts slotted and drilled rotors front and rear

Lights: Amazon 32" lightbar up front. Unknown 06-09 black headlights and Amazon 06-09 tail lights.

Audio: Pioneer oem replacement subwoofer and JBL GTO629 speakers up front. Kicker 10" sub with Rockford 250W amp. Alpine ILX-W650 headunit

Others: Peter Lang roof rack, Icom Radio, sway bar removed, K&N intake, flowmaster 40 series dumped before the axle, rocksteady skid plate and a gang of stickers.

These were taken at Pismo Beach in August 2019. My family's 5th annual trip and my 2nd trip having the 4Runner

I'll be posting some more pics as I find them with the dates so the timeline doesn't seem too random

Here's some pics from February 2018, this is what it looked like when I first bought the truck. Went out to Pine Valley, CA for a quick morning run that day

So for headlights I was able to find a good deal on some Spec D Tuning projectors off of offerup. For 45 bucks it was a good deal and they were way brighter than the cracked and faded oem headlights. But about a year later, the halos stopped working and I wasn't fully in love with them from the start so I picked up some Akkon blacked out OEM style headlights form amazon for 100 bucks shipped. Here's a little comparison.

Side note: I removed the running boards to make the truck look better and because I never used them.

May 2018. One of the first few mods I did to the runner was getting drilled and slotted brake rotors for the fronts. Not sure why, but I wanted to make sure the brakes were good without having to pay an arm and a leg for some stop techs or whatever. These paired with ceramic brake pads made quite the difference. No brake fading and faster stopping with the heavy 285s

Going to high school in Bonita, CA meant that I could hit the trails right after school. Even after graduating, Otay truck trail and behind Olympian High School are still quick and fun spots to hit whenever my jeep homie is back in town. This was taken December 2018. Peep the Christmas lights wrapped on the "bull bar"

Rear Suspension: So I picked up some Icon 2.5 with the RR and adjuster in January 2019. I got one shock as a Christmas/birthday gift, so I just had to pay for the other. Shoutout my cousin btw. From the old black oem shocks to these Icons was a huge improvement, especially being able to stiffen up the shock for different terrain. In maybe mid May 2019, I picked up matching Icon 2" springs to replace the oem + spacer lift in the rear. I got them used off of Vilmont market on instagram. The guy didn't like how much lift they gave so he took em out right away. Basically brand new for way cheaper than retail. I didn't notice too much of a ride difference, but the back no longer sags so I'm happy.

Front suspension: So as I said before, the truck had TRD pro front coilovers and TC UCAs installed. I blew the TRD bilsteins almost instantly screwing around in the back of otay and they weren't adjustable so I had a 2" spacer stacked on a .5" spacer.

In june 2019 I decided to go all out and pick up some Kings 2.5 EXT with the adjuster. The install was maybe 2 hours to get them in. then having to take them out to adjust them with the stupid pick looking tool because the hose was in the way. After getting it to a drive able level, I ordered the T-tool. The handle and bent tip made adjusting them on the truck so much faster.

These coilovers were definitely worth the money. Feels way better and has 28 clicks of adjustment for micro tuning. I run it towards full soft for daily driving, and cranked it up to 16 clicks when booking it over the whoops in Pismo Beach.

Easy adjustments: jack up the truck, loosen the safety screw one turn, spray some WD40 and crank til you're happy.

Here's a little comparison between the Kings and blown TRD pro bilsteins.

Ocotillo Wells. March 2019.

After my saturday engineering class 9am-2pm and my chem 200 midterm, I booked it out to Ocotillo Wells to meet up with my fam for a weekend trip. Definitely needed the break from school and got some shots with my canon 77d.

More off roading trip pics to come as I find them and resize them so I can upload them here.

Hey Phillip, sweet build! How do you like the AKKON headlights? Any condensation or fitment issues? Adequate light beam from them?

I saw them on Amazon and was pondering those as a replacement for my OEM assemblies with cracks all over them.

so badass on the trail access out there, behind your HS. the one pic where the jeep is about to climb looks really fun.

When you switched from the Spec D headlights to the Akkon headlights did you have to buy new bulbs? I want to buy the headlights you have but it seems like I would need to use the stock bulbs and I don't want to pay the $300 for a nice pair of LED lights to put in the headlights. The nice thing about the Spec D headlights is that it seems like they come with the LED light built into the headlight assembly.
