Rusted tailgate strike plate - need OEM part #

I'd like to replace the rusted out strike plate on the tailgate but am not sure of the OEM part #. Does anyone know? Would like to also change out the rusted bolts on either side of the strike plate.

Thanks in advance.

That’s going to be difficult getting those bolts out.

Is your rear crossmember rusted out? By the looks of that latch the nearby frame underneath must be pretty rotten.

That's a good question and, frankly, I'm afraid to look.

I bought my 4R used about 3.5 years ago. It's not my daily driver, and since I've owned it I only put on about 17,000 miles. Odometer reading right now is just under 123,000. Certainly not a lot of mileage for these trucks. My concern is that this being a Northeast vehicle, it has some signs of rust and corrosion underneath. I've noticed that rear strikeplate and surrounding bolts looking worse over the last couple of years, and I don't wheel my truck at all. Hasn't seen any water crossings of any kind while I've owned it.

Did you check out the frame at purchase?

I’d definitely give it a good inspection, best case scenario it’s just surface rust under there being a NE vehicle. Worst case your frame is toast.

My rear bolts holding that rear bumper plastic on and the rear hatch latch look much better than yours and my frame under there was pretty gnarly just from all the salt kickup from the rear tires.

Yes I did inspect the frame before I purchased. I bought my 4R used at my local Toyota dealer. They agreed to take the truck down into one of the service bays and put it up on a lift so I could get underneath and check it out. They were pretty cool about it. It really only had a little surface rust as you pointed out.

Not sure why my rear bumper bolts and strike plate are so corroded. My 4R doesn't see a lot of winter miles which is when all that nasty corrosive salt is on the roads. It really is one of the (many) things I hate about living in the Northeast.

Ok well that’s good, I thought you had meant you bought it and hadn’t checked the frame.

Yeah idk why those particular parts decided to take a beating. Go to the beach? Or go through a car wash during winter (maybe one that isn’t recycling the water like it should so it’s dishing out saltwater)?

Anyway. Definitely hit those bolts with some penetrant both top and bottom like a week before removal time, and top off the penetrant each day until you do go to install your new latch. The bottom of the threads are exposed to the road if I recall.

Mine looked the same. Began the process of trying to get the rusted striker and bolts out and ended up snapping one of the bolts.

How did yours turn out?

I'm getting ready to drop the spare tire to see how bad the rust is.

I never got the bolts out. I bought some fancy drill bits at Home Depot but they were useless. All I did was strip the bolt heads, so I ended up leaving it alone. I'll give it another go some day when I'm motivated.

Did you get any further on yours?
