Bilstein 5100's w/ arb front bumper & V8. What to adjust to?
I come from the landcruiser world so front IFS on 4Runners is new to me.
I currently have 1" daystar spacers on 2016 tacoma struts. This was done to lift the front up since there is an arb bumper on there as well as the V8 motor weight. The shocks are blown out and when I hit a bump the ride is like a boat. This is not related to caster or alignment. When the truck is parked I can push on the bumper and it bounces a bit.
My friend gave me some used bilstein 5100's and their matching coils. I watched the video on their adjustment and how not to use them with spacers and rather adjust the coil top hat.
What height have people adjusted their top hat to with an arb bumper and v8 engine weight? I have a diff drop so I am not worried about CV angle.
Thank you.

Need to know what springs you're running. There are alot of options

The coils are take offs and are used just as the 5100's are. They are off a 2009 4runner.
The goal is to run these for a bit until a toytex lift goes on later down the line.
I am curious what setting people use for heavy front ends (ie arb bumper and V8 weight).

I would guess 2nd clip would be about right. You could always just change the clip down the road if you aren't happy with it.

Stock coils with a heavy bumper are always going to sag. best intermittent option is to contact Dobinsons for some new front coils (possibly rears as well) and run them with the Bilsteins and chuck the spacers in the trash. Dobinsons has quite a few different options for coils and a pair will only set you back a couple hundred dollars. See
@ Dobinsons Mike
page for 5% code.

No one here has addressed the spring rate.
You can adjust the height or change clip settings all you want, but if you are running the stock coils, it’s going to be under-sprung regardless of what you are doing.
The stock spring rate (on the V6) is about 600 lbs, at least that’s what my 6112 shocks shipped with. Eibach is the coil manufacture, and they make optional 650 and 700 lbs coils specifically to deal with things like aftermarket bumper / winch weight. I would reach out to them and discuss how much additional weight you have added and seek their recommendation.
Note:
The springs job is the hold up the weight, and the shocks job is the control it. If you have the wrong spring rate, the shock is going to have a hard time controlling that weight regardless.

FJ 4x4 coils set at 1.75 gave me about 2.250" lift & are significantly stiffer, very inexpensive.
Ride is firm not harsh.

Run the Dobinsons 700lb front springs, trash those spacers, set the Bilsteins either at the middle setting or 1 notch above that.
Running stock springs from any vehicle is going to ride like garbage.

I still don’t think it’s enough spring to handle the additional weight of the V8 + a bumper.
Googling shows a shipping weight of about 285 lbs for the ARB bumper, so estimate at least 200 lbs installed + accessories if applicable.
Plus coils are pretty inexpensive as it is... couple hundred for new and you get something you know will work. Certainly cost more to do it twice.

They're 660# springs, but I'm not running an aftermarket bumper yet so I can't vouch for the extra weight.

It’s stiffer than I thought it would be, so that’s great to know it’s #660.
From the reading I have done on the 6112/V8 threads, many people appear to be pairing the Eibach #650 for use with the V8 without front bumper.
Sounds like the OP should be looking for at least a #700 coil, but that’s my guess. Again, I would call Eibach and run it by them, their team is pretty good at handling these types of questions. They have been very helpful in the past on my off-road vehicles.

Dobinsons has a 730# option that would probably be a little better for the bumper plus a V8. As far as I know they're the only ones who surpass the 700# mark. OP, If you're ever planning on putting a winch on or if it has one already go with the 730# springs. You wont be disappointed.

King can provide you with a 750lb spring, which is what I will be swapping to when running a front bumper and winch

Holy shit, if that’s the correct weight, don’t go with anything less than 700 lb springs.
More important than preventing g the front end from sagging, it’s a safety issue. Without properly supporting all of that extra weight, emergency maneuvers will be compromised, as well as emergency brake g

Thanks for the quick educational read on coil spring rates and load capacities. I'll see what I can do to expedite proper coils to match the weight. I plan on adding a winch, warn xd900i or warn 8274 modified to fit the bumper so I'll take that extra weight into consideration.
