DAC button no where to be found
Well I finally went out and bought a 4Runner like I’ve always wanted. 1 winter in West Michigan made me want to sell my BMW immediately. Wife and I are planning to do some fun camping trips in this thing and I’m very happy to have a mostly rust free example. I have a 2006 Sport Edition V8, 4wd of course
As I’ve looked the truck over, for the life of me I cannot find the DAC button. Above the drivers left knee I have 4 buttons, only one of which has a function (center diff “lock”). On the center console I have 3 blank buttons. I’ve done reading on all manner of forums and articles. To my knowledge, it seems that everyone’s impression is that DAC came standard for all 4wd 4runners. However, I can’t find mine anywhere. Am I incorrect in thinking DAC was standard on 4wds? If it isn’t, have you heard of anyone retro fitting it?
Thanks for helping a newbie,
Andy

DAC should be on the center console, the cluster of three between driver and passenger, should be right there. If not, it was blanked out for some reason.

Are you sure its 4wd? I had a friend that this happened to, bought what he thought and was told was a AWD car and it ended up being a FWD model that had had the tailgate replaced with a matching one from a AWD.
Just something to look at, otherwise I'd pop out the console and see if the switch wiring is there and try buying/installing a switch. As mentioned it might have been blanked out for some reason (previous owner by accident hit it too much?)

OP states he has a center locking diff button, so I'd say it's 4WD.

I don't use DAC at all, removed the button actually.
I just put it in 4-low and manually shift to the 1st gear. Barely have to apply the brakes going down hill.

Good point, just something to think about since I've seen it happen, it would haunt me if it happened to me, but crazier things have been seen haha

You are correct. DAC is standard on all 4wd models.
Please confirm that you definitely have a 4wd model. You said there's a CDL button to the left of the steering wheel, but do you have the high/low range selector knob to the right of the steering wheel?
One other thing, I remember another person on this forum a few years ago saying they had a 4Runner that was missing lots of standard features too. It turned out that some dealership somewhere brought in a batch of 'bare bones' vehicles for some reason.
DAC actually does a pretty good job in my experience, but I probably only use it once a year. It also sounds like a miniature gun fight is going on behind the dash when it's doing it's thing, haha.

Ditto! Couldn't stand it bumping into the button, so I unplugged it and filled the space with something more useful. I've been wheeling longer than I've had a license, so 4-lo 1st gear is all the DAC I will ever need

haha, in this case it was a mid 2000's Volvo S40 Manual. The manual AWD ones were really hard to come by, so when he found one he snatched it up... turns out it was a Manual FWD, which were fairly common.
No FWD 4Runner here!

Mine is currently just floating around under my center console where it used to reside. In its place is a USB to USB and USB to Power plug. If I want to reinstall it all I would do is pop out another blank and put it there, but I always bump into it and never use it so that's why I stowed it under the area it used to be. Could be possible that the previous owner did the same thing. Pop up the center console area where these switches are and take a look. Might just be hanging out under there

I’ll check into popping out the blank and see if the wiring is there- wife has it today. Funny how she’s driven it more than I have in the last week.
I figured if it’s not there then I’ll get by with 1st gear low range. It’s what I’ve always used.
And it’s definitely 4wd. It’s in all time 4wd with low range twist knob next to right knee.
Thanks for the fast responses everybody.

Removed the console today and I see that they probably unplugged and blanked out the dac. However, I see a 6 prong white and a two prong white plug, unsure what they go to. Any ideas?
I know the blue connection goes into the dac given the research I did. But unsure about other two.
