URD making a Supercharger kit for V8 4Runners!!
Saw on URD's site: "2003+ 4Runner V8 - Tundra system nearing completion. Need a 2005 or later 4Runner V8 for fit up for the 4Runner applicaitons. If interested in loaning your vehicle please contact URD 877-887-3872."
Located Here:
Underdog Racing Development
I wish I was closer; they seem to be located out of Maryland.
Anyone on the east coast willing to donate their 2005+ engine bay in the name of science?

I thought the VVTI V8's had issues with superchargers, namely busting rods?

That's been on there for quite some time now. Hope it comes true some day though.

Tundra and sequoia motors are made in usa with cast connecting rods, the 4runner is made in Japan with forged rods. Although they are the same motor, 4runner engine is better. Sign me up!!

So do people not want boosted V8s in their 4Runners? We're talking about the greater good here, people!

Ikr! If I had the cash I would drive to Maine so they could hook it up! I mean come on! I bet you could get 400 hp/tq easily out of the V8!

HOLD UP. I'm currently in MD for a prolonged period with my 03 V8 runner. Can I get a supercharger for free if I let them use it for development
Edit: Damn, misread. They want an 05+... I wonder why.

03-04 are non-vvti motors. You can get a supercharger for those. Hard to find, but their out there. 05-09 are the vvt-i motors and we don't have a supercharger currently. The way I understand it is the supercharger was blowing out the bottom end on the Tundra and sequoia so TRD pulled production. Here's the kicker, those motors are made in America but the 4Runner is made in Japan. American 4.7 has cast connecting rods, Japanese motors have forged. Stronger parts!

That's been something I have heard as well, but there's no real evidence to support or deny that definitively... I think the issue was more that there were more Tundras and Sequoias that were boosted than 4Runners and Land Cruisers and out of those they had more issues.

The other thing I heard was the part of the computer that runs the vvt-i worked against the supercharger so hard it was causing parts to break.

Reached out to URD via their website and gave them a link to this thread asking for them to post an update.

I offered my 2008 up to Gadget twice and they never took. Given how long that was up on his page, I suspect its a dead dream by now.

The rumor is confirmed......
URD is now ready to do the supercharger kit for the 2005-2009 4Runner V8.
We need to get a truck in here to wrap it up.
We have one guy ready to send his truck, but it is not here yet so...
Here is a vid of our V6 system in action:
http://vid239.photobucket.com/albums...F567D3B6C4.mp4
Yes that is tires chirping going into 2nd.
There is a durability issue with the 4.7L engine and there were some failures with the TRD system. Yes, the US made engines use powdered metal connecting rods so the max RPM has to be limited.
The engineer that made the engine control systems for TRD that were included in those supercharger kits now works with me. It turns out that there is an issue in the stock ECU that when a series of things line up just right and there is boost in the engine, it can be turned into a bomb. With this knowledge, we have designed our UCON-Ethos EMS to remove the stock ECUs ability to cause this problem. So, I believe we have solved the engine control problem, but the overall durability issue of the physical engine remains and that will limit the max RPM and power we can produce. We have been running an 05 Tundra for a few years now at a power level of 150 RWHP over stock and it just purrs along. I will not push this engine as hard as we have pushed the 4.0L that we have pushed to 540 RWHP up from 205 RWHP stock.
Anyway, really would love to get the 4Runner V8 kit going.
Don't have any info on the 4Runner V8 system because we have not made it yet, but will combine the 4Runner V6 system with the Tundra V8 system and use our UCON-Ethos EMS with its self tuning logic and engine protection features.
Please do not blow up my in-box with a bunch of questions I cannot answer. Will give full info when the system is ready for market.
If you are able to drop your 4Runner off for a few weeks to us we can give you a nice discount on a system.
If you need to contact me or URD please do so directly by email [email protected] I cannot keep up with PMs on 100 different Toyota web forums.

Interesting that URD is developing a supercharger kit for V8 4Runners and don't even have a test vehicle to install it on.

these are the times i wish i had a VVTi, i really dont want to go hunting for a TRD 4.7SC. but i also think boost + 35's + locker + stock 8" axle and clamshell would call for a bad day for me in the middle of no where
