Transmission Fluid Type

Hi guys. This is a really dumb question, but I need a sanity check.

I have an 2004 4Runner with the V6 and 4-speed transmission/4 wheel drive. I believe that makes my transmission model the A340f, correct?

My main question is what fluid type does this transmission use? Up until today, I was convinced I needed the Toyota T-IV fluid. I asked the parts guy at my local dealership what the price was and he said I needed the WS fluid.

This guy has never steered me wrong so now I'm questioning everything I know.

So what type of fluid do I need? I also welcome recommendations for ATF from other brands so I can price compare.

Thanks in advance.

You need T-IV fluid , parts guy is wrong .

Not sure about your area but around here it’s pretty hard to find this fluid stocked at auto parts stores now. Maybe try amazon if the dealer is being stupid.

I run Motul Multi-ATF with the JWS 3309 (T-IV) spec printed on the bottle. Get it through a buddy’s shop special order. He won’t stock it either.

Ok thanks for the feedback. Yeah I can get T-IV on Amazon so if I go with Toyota brand I'll just get it from there.

That's good to know. I never noticed that, but my dipstick is pretty dirty so that might be why.
