Glove Box Lock

So my issue with the glove box would seem to be the opposite of most others. I cannot actually get it to lock. Any tips or tricks for anyone who may have had this issue before?

I assume replacing the lock isn't that difficult, but I'd like to avoid that if I can. Thank you all for your time.

Are you using the correct key? Is the key original or aftermarket? If original, is it black or gray? If it is the gray key, it is the valet key and will not lock/unlock the glovebox.

I’ve tried both black Keys. They are original.

I tried my key several months ago and it wouldn't lock the glove box, after reading your post I tried it again yesterday and to my surprise it worked perfectly.

The only thing I can think of is that the key only goes in around 1/2" not all the way and I either was trying to push it in to hard or didn't have it in far enough when I tried it back then.

I would suggest pull it out a tiny bit or push it in bit harder and see if that helps to get it to work, if it still doesn't work is it possible the glove box lock was replaced at some point(?) or the lock or keys are worn too much.

Wow! I feel like the biggest idiot. I went out and tried it again following the advice and it works like a champ! Amazing how long I've had this vehicle, and thought it just didn't work. Thank you both for taking the time to reply to a thread written by a guy who now feels like quite the dummy.
