'08 Sport, 4.0 with 4WD, 169,000 miles

I've been doing my own oil changes since day 1 every 8,000 - 10,000 miles. I started out using Amsoil but switched to Pennzoil Ultra or Platinum, whichever was available. I also will use Mobil1 filters if I can't get my hands on OEM. I've also grudgingly used a few Fram filters under duress.

My previous 3rd gen (sold at 152,000) and 2nd gen (sold at 205,000) were treated similarly, as were my other 3 Toyotas.

I should probably mention that I frequently tow a boat and use to tow a camper. None of my vehicles EVER used oil.

245K miles and I've always used a 50/50 blend of synthetic and conventional oil, Brand is Quaker state from the local tire shop. $25.00-$30 for an oil change and tire rotation.

do you make your own blend or buy the quaker state blend?

if youre buying a blend oil, it is not 50/50, most blends are lucky to be 10-20% synthetic.

I noticed in the past it was listed as a 50/50 blend, but I guess they don’t make it any more?

not doubting you as i dont usually use quaker state oil, but curious where you noticed or confirmed it was ever a 50/50 blend.

blends are proprietary & there is no standard rule oil companies have to meet in order to call it a blend. valvoline told me when i asked a few years ago about theirs that while they wouldn't confirm the actual %, they said it was "about" 25% & they even said many others are rarely that high, & ~15-20% is the norm.

152,000 miles and always do oil changes every 6,000 miles. Its like cheap insurance to me.

Always do Mobil 1 full synthetic with filter.

Since 168k I've been going to Jiffy Lube, they use pennzoil, and now at 180k and up I've been working at a shop and doing my own oil changes. I've always used reg conventional but recently been mixing some full synthetic in w mine. They use Valvoline at the shop I work at. What do you guys use and how many miles are on your 4Runner? I have the V6 03 Sprt edition btw.
Jug of 5W30 whatever major brand is on sale at Walmart and OEM Toyota filters that I buy in bulk from Amazon as well as washer-gaskets for the pan. Don't over-complicate. I have over 140K miles on 6cyl 2008. Change every 5K miles because it's so simple on this vehicle with filter on top. Like the Penzoil jug best actually.

I bought my 2007 with 120K on it. I've been changing the oil every 5K with regular Mobil1. I'm at 170K now and it still runs great.

I know it said 50/50 blend, because I seen the container and that’s what the shop said it used at that time. BUT, that was like 18 years ago. I still go to that same shop and over time I stopped asking what brand/type of oil they used.

Mine is coming up for an oil change soon, at 160k right now. The last oil change was done by a dealership, QuakerState Conventional Oil. I don't know of the history beyond that, but I was thinking of doing a high mileage synthetic blend oil, Mobil Super. Or should I do high mileage Full synthetic, or opt for Valvoline Maxlife?

ok i will take your word for it... but ive been changing my own oil for 30 some years now & always look at all the major brands for sale prices (im not loyal to one brand) & i have never seen any oil state the actual percentage of blend on the bottle.

i dont use quaker state currently but have used in many times in the last ~20 years, used to use their full synthetics that were labeled "4x4" & "torque" & one other i cant recall. have used their blend & conventional as well. just saying that oil companies dont post their % for blends on the bottles or disclose it if you ask.

I had an 06 SR5 with 285k and used OEM filters from EBay in bulk and took a 10 minute drive to the Community Toyota for Toyota 5w30 conventional. Will be doing the same for my current 08 SR5 with 196k.
