How many miles and what engine oil do you use?

Hello everyone just on here because I was interested in what everyone was up to w their high mileage 4th gens lol. I'm approaching 190k miles on mine and it's about time I change the oil soon and was wondering what you guys were using. Since 168k I've been going to Jiffy Lube, they use pennzoil, and now at 180k and up I've been working at a shop and doing my own oil changes. I've always used reg conventional but recently been mixing some full synthetic in w mine. They use Valvoline at the shop I work at. What do you guys use and how many miles are on your 4Runner? I have the V6 03 Sprt edition btw.

I have over 200k on my 2004 and I use nothing but standard conventional oil... typically the most affordable stuff I can find.

I change it regularly and don't go out of my way to buy anything special. I have no plans on changing it up either.

I've always been a fan of Citgo Supergard Semi-Synthetic for my own, and the fam's vehicles. Not much more $$ than conventional, and way cheaper than full synth - can normally find it for a few bucks a quart on sale. Been in multiple 200k and 300k vehicles and normally replaced on 5-7k intervals. Just IMO.

I posted in a couple of other threads that full synthetic leaked like crazy in my V8 with 200K miles (ironically it was high mileage synthetic). It took 5 months after going back to conventional until it fully quit smelling. I'm doing 2nd timing belt change shortly and will replace the valve cover gaskets, but I'm not trying synthetic again in a high mileage engine.

Help identifying leaks

Stories like this is precisely why I would leave good enough alone… 200k miles of success with conventional, not going to risk messing with the recipe.

At 188k in mine and have been using 10w-30 Mobile 1 high mileage for the last 30k of that. I change it every 5-7k. It costs me $30 or so for the oil at Walmart and then a Toyota filter is $5 at the dealer.

In my mind, it's $35 every 5000-7000 miles. What point is there in trying to save $10 by going with a less reputable brand?

I’ve been using Mobil1 full syn 5w30 since about 90k. I’m at 147k and been considering switching to the Mobil1 high mileage. I don’t know if there’s any real difference from the regular stuff though.

The Amazon Basic Synthentic is good stuff. Blackstone report looking good at 125k and they're recommending 8k intervals. No issues with leaks.

Three Toys: Matrix/218K, Highlander/200K, 4Run/133K
Have used Valvoline Semi-Syn and Full Syn mixture 50/50 almost exclusively in all 3, and use OEM oil filter. Change at 3-4K or 6mos. whichever first.

NO problems!

202k on my 4runner, almost 200k on an Odyssey and 240k on an Accord all with conventional, lately the high mileage variety. With today's engines the biggest thing is to change it regularly. When I got my 4runner it was not changed regularly and had sludging. After some work and cleaners it is now fine and doesn't seem to burn any oil.

200km Motul full synthetic with oem toyota filter every 7-8km. I get this oil cheap through my dealership, otherwise its stupid expensive. Best oil though.

all the cars i had and my family has, we always just buy the mobil1 fully synthetic from wall mart for $25-ish and the fram filter. we have no issues. Its $30-$35 so not to painful on the wallet

from the small research i did, the high mileage mobil1 oil is that is comes with cleaning detergents. so its like running reagualr oil with sea foam in your crankcase.

Truth be told, now at days engines are built so good that you can run any oil but need to change it on time. As long as you do that, nothing to worry about.

And about people complaing about running the fram oil filter, its not that bad as everyone says it is. I personally change my oil every 5k miles on all our cars (6 vechiles). And we have no issues.

P.S. wall mart here in sacramento, CA started carrying OEM Toyota Oil filters so i run that on my 4Runner and my moms avalon.

I use conventional 10W 40 (Bahamas temps 60 F to 95F). I tried that semisynthetic once and got some oil leaks - which went away on their own after 1000 miles.

SR5 145,000 V6 2005

I'm back to conventional every 4000 miles. Never had a check engine lite code in 14 years. No oil leaks with conventional.

Always been using Penzoil Platinum Full synthetic, they did a cold weather oil test and it seemed to have the best flow. Also its always on sale so it makes sense, just make sure you buy a good filter i stick to wix XP.

06’ SR5 V6 195k miles. Got it from my parents (original owner). My dad has always used Castrol’s GTX conventional in all his cars never any problems. I changed to Walmart’s cheapest full synthetic, which was also cheaper than the Castrol’s around 191k miles. No issues noted so far. This engine has never burned oil at all, and still no loss of oil with 4k miles on synthetic. Will still be changing every 5k.

It did drip oil around the crush washer when I changed over to synthetic that has never been replaced since it drove off the lot! We never knew it was supposed to be changed honestly.

This is the cleanest engine. When I took over I changed the transmission and gear fluid for the first time and it surprisingly looked clean at 191k. I was a little scared at first when he said he didn’t know gear fluid was a thing or that the transmission fluid could be changed on this vehicle.
