Common large tire sizes - 4.88 re-gear

Currently running a 32.1” MT (255/75/17)

Looking to gear at 4.88 because I don't daily drive it and feel I want to be slightly over-geared with the option to run a 35 in the future if/when I LT the truck.

This got me thinking about possible tire upgrades in the future… what are the most common size options to consider for 33” to 35” sizes? I have both 16” and 17” rims available to me.

I don't mind a skinnier tire for the size either if it helps with weight and fitment.

I have 285/75R17s (33.8) and I like them however they are a VERY tight fit. Definitely need a BL in my future. I will be going 4.88s as well.

I think you would be happy with the power of the final gearing that I have. 35's w/ 4.88s and a bunch of my added weight. Cruise control is dead on at any speed and no downshifting to accelerate at 80mph. I daily drive my truck and go on road trips with it but I like the way it is setup now even though rpms are high, I'm sure the transmission is happier.

Not too big of a mpg hit if there is one as far as far as I can tell. Its around the same or maybe 1mpg lower than stock gears and 35's.

Your truck is probably lighter than mine so 4.56 would be fine I would imagine and give you the power you are looking for with 33's or 34's. 4.88s if you were sure you were going to run 35's.
