power lock, door actuators not working
I have a 2006 4Runner Limited, V8 with just under 190000 miles, that has power lock issues. I have read many posts about door actuator and power lock issues and fixes; power lock issues with 3rd gen, door actuator issues with 4th gen and newer. Here is my problem: all four doors do not lock or unlock by any means other than manually; the driver door unlocks manually using the key but can't be locked with the key. The tailgate does lock and unlock using the remote and driver/passenger door lock switches. Also, when using the switches/remote, the relay clicks and the chime sounds. The door locks worked fine until several winters ago. When the remote "quit" working, I replaced the battery but had no success using it ever again. I started using the key in the driver door to lock and unlock all the doors and the switches still worked. After a couple of years, the key method and switches quit working. At this time, the doors quit locking when going out of park and unlocking when going to park. Also to note, when things stopped working with the remote/switches/key, it stopped working with all four doors at the same time. When the key method stopped working, I figured the issue is something common to all four doors. I finally took the truck to the dealer. Their diagnosis was that all four actuators are bad and could be fixed at a cost of $1800. I passed on the fix and thought that it's weird that all four went bad at the same time... Anyway, based on the expert's diagnosis, I ordered parts to replace the actuators and after replacing the first one, found that it did not work. I'm pretty sure it's not an actuator problem. I don't think the driver or passenger switches are bad since they still lock/unlock the tailgate. My Haynes manual doesn't have much for electrical drawings concerning the power lock system. I will continue to look for other potential problems/fixes and post results. In the meantime, if anyone reading this has any ideas, feel free to let me know. Thanks.
