Just got a 2004, V8, 4WD, Sport
So she is a fixer upper , good records dating back to 04, 260K miles, did not notice any leaks, very dry looking under-bed no fluid stains that I saw last night, some surface rust on frame but some on the skids.
The list:
New windshield, suspension, brakes, left front signal (the bumper also has a crack by there as well (deer hit)), front and gas tank skids have some rusting and gas tank skid has a perforation, the carpet has Utah rust color sand not sure if it can be cleaned, it is very dusty. O and the driver side seat has a rip but not a big deal to us as it will be our camping rig
I had a 04 ltd with the same 2uz engine and I did the full TB job before hauling a 6x10 on a 3k miles trip across the country from Atlanta through the rockies, yellowston to now just east of Seattle, being a 04 it is a non-interference engine (correct me if I am wrong?).
Was 4runnerless for over a year, it was tough , looking forward to some of the forest service roads in the Cascades and lurking on the forums again

Congrats on the rig! Look's nice on the outside! You still have an interference engine with the 2uz V8. The only difference is that you don't have VVT-i (variable valve timing) that adds a few BHP. Definitely stay up to date on the timin belt on this one too

Congrats on rejoining the 4runner world!!! It's nice to have some little bits and pieces to have to work on here and there before focusing on upgrades.
I'd suggest to do the brakes first!!
Passenger side, is that different paint on the front door? Might be the light, but looks like it's a different color to me.

Congrats on your new rig! I'm also in the Seattle area and a few months ago I got myself a 2003 V8 4WD Sport Edition. (my 1st 4Runner) Mine has the plastic body cladding which I'm still deciding if I like or not. My running boards were rusting bad, so that was the first thing to go. This week I'm in the middle of ripping out my X-Reas and installing suspension from a 3rd Gen Tacoma Off Road with new control arms up front. Hopefully I'll be able to start working on the rear this weekend.
Are you staying stock on suspension or doing a lift?

Hello^ just saw this, nice, I do like the non-functional hood on the SE , how did your xreas install go?
Last week took her through mountain loop highway, my xreas are shot pretty bad and I just picked-up a set from a 2019 taco set last week.
Also added the BT, AUX unit last week
Trying to rent a storage unit, so I can do TB and shocks

Rent a commercial steam cleaner for the carpet. Do not mess around with a cheap $100 cleaner from Target. Use a commercial steam cleaner.

It should have a sticker on the timing belt cover stating last replacement mileage, or in service records in paper/online if it was done at a dealer. If it went according to FSM, it is likely due for a change soon, with one replacement done at 100k and the next assumedlt at ~200k!

Just any FYI, for the timing belt sticker, from my own experience if it was even stuck under the hood somewhere by the mechanic who did the timing belt it could be anywhere under the hood, in my case I thought my belt had never been changed or no sticker was applied, but about a month or so after I bought it I just happened to look up at the under side of the hood and to my surprise and relief the timing belt sticker was there on the under side of the hood, one would think that a mechanic would put the sticker in a very obvious and visible spot but not the case for my T4R...so look everywhere under the hood for that sticker.
Also another FYI, Toyota recommends the timing belt being replaced every 90,000 miles, so
@ Zippy0n
if your's "was" done at 90,000 miles you're now 18,000 miles past due for the second timing belt, if it was done before the 90,000 miles mark you're even more past due, if it was never done you're WAY over due for it to be done!!

Yup, mine was stuck on the "V8 4.7L" engine cover.

Or 7 years. I'm on my 2nd timing belt at 125,000. It was previously replaced at 60,000 (2011). The TB and bearings were in great shape and could have probably last another 3 years/30k miles. The water pump, on the other hand, was starting to leak out the weep hole.

Good thing you replaced it when you did since the water pump was starting to leak, another member here replaced his timing belt but not the water pump since it wasn't leaking and looked to be OK, within 30,000 miles or so if I remember correctly the water pump started leaking, the coolant it appeared deteriorated the belt and it broke and did serious damage to his engine, valves, pistons, etc.
