You all are making me pretty envious - in the northwest you simply cannot find clean V8 4th-gens for < 10k.

The first truck I had my eye on was an '08 Limited V8 4x4 with 132k. Second owner. He was asking $14,500 and it was sold before I had a chance to look at it.

I ended up getting a 2006 V8 Sport 4x4 (w/the hood scoop etc.), 170k on the clock. Immaculate body, immaculate interior, no rust. Dealer did front brakes (calipers, rotors, pads), and timing belt/water pump before purchase. Paid $13,500. I know, I know, that's pretty outrageous, but people want insane prices for their Toyota's out here.

Got an 05 V8 4wd just under 200k miles for $5 but I waited for like 8 months until I found the right one. Be patient and do your homework. Title check and car fax but don't solely rely on that left the vehicle over really good take it for a test drive look at the fluids.

I purchased an 07 Limited V8 with 175k odo in Richmond Va in May for $10,700. It was at a Toyota Dealership and they were asking $12k. It's all stock, 1 owner, garage kept, excellent maintenance per Carfax although they did delay the TB a little and replaced it at 103k odo. I had been looking for months and this was the cleanest inside and out by far. No rust underneath, no leaks, everything works properly.

The only small issue it does have the driveshaft clunk which I didn't pick up during the test drive but I'm not concerned about that.

I paid $11.5k for an 06 v8 4x4 a couple years back here Los Angeles.
160k on the engine and rust free. Originally from Arizona so the paint has seen better days but it doesn't bother me. When I was looking that was on par for what I was seeing. I had missed out on 3 others V8's that had sold the day after postings were listed on CL.

7K sounds reasonable

I think 7K sounds good for a clean one with that mileage.

I was looking for over a year. I wanted a V6 4WD 4th gen. I was on Autotrader constantly, an 08' limited V8 4WD came up and I just jumped on it. Had only 85K miles and all service records from the dealer. Don't think anyone ever sat in the back seat. Anyways, paid 19K for it. May have been too much but it was super clean. Even had the timing belt changed already.

I would say be patient. If you can get one that was driven less than 12K miles per year. They are hard to find but they are out there.

If it were me, and a 180k mile '06 v8 4x4 was at a dealership, I'd be asking for the timing belt and water pump to be replaced pre-delivery included in the asking price. I wouldn't drive off the lot under my ownership without those being done. I drove for 3 years half-doubting that the previous owner actually did the timing belt change and it's no way of living, lol.

Exhaust manifolds are a PITA and expensive. I'm finally pulling the trigger on that, and I'm just hoping it doesn't spiral into a $3000 and 3 week install adventure. Already at $1000 just getting headers and studs. Then I'm sure I'll be chasing CELs and headaches for a while.

Brake calipers wasn't bad at all for me though. I bought NAPA ones that are lifetime warranty and already painted black so they won't rust as easily. If they seize, I literally just exchange them as long as I own my vehicle. I double checked with the store owner and even explained that these tend to seize regularly. "No problem. Bring them back and get new ones. If those seize, bring those back too." Got speed bleeders and bled the brakes in my garage by myself.
Why do you think you will be chasing CELs for and why would the headers take 3 weeks to install?

I just bought an '05 V8 SE 4x4 with 107k in immaculate condition inside and out other than a few chips in the paint around the edges...no rust and no leaks. Had to drive 4 hours to a Toyota dealer outside of Atlanta, GA a few days ago to get it though. I ended up paying $13,900 out the door after all the taxes and fees, the vehicle had an amazing service history...two previous owners, both owners maintained it at a Toyota dealership on a regular basis, the timing belt and water pump were changed at 91k and the brake calipers/pads/rotors were also replaced recently. As a first time T4R owner, I'm pretty pleased with the purchase. But from what I've seen, finding one in clean condition that has been well maintained will more than likely require some travel, either a long drive or even a flight.
