what would be a sign head gaskets have been replaced

Is there anything that leaves a clue the heads have or have not been off?

Thanks

Maybe the exhaust gaskets would look newer? Possibly edge areas of the new HG can be seen as well and might look newer. Probably hard to tell.

If you can see paint marks on the head bolts that are all pointing in the same direction, that would be a good indicator the head gaskets have been replaced. Some mechanics will use paint marks to set the final 90* + 90* final torque while others will use an angle gauge.
