Headlight restoration
Well, it was about that time again, something I do about once a year.
3M rubbing compound on a soft buffing pad on my electric drill. What you see is about 60sec of labor after I had the lights masked off. No sandpaper, no cutting into the headlight (an unnecessary step I used to take).

nice work, this reminds me that I need to do the same.
How good is the sealer , does it last for the year?

That's pretty good for just using rubbing compound! I have a couple pairs that I need to do in the near future, and may try this first to avoid the extra work. Did you seal with 2K or equivalent?

The sealant used in the sylvania headlight kit seems high-powered, though I haven't had it on very long. My mom's sequoia still looks new after about a year though. Might be worth trying.
Step two, wipe down the firewall. Haha

If your headlight is really bad, you might want to consider giving it a wetsanding with a high grit (2000+) sand paper. Then use Novus or Plastx to buff it out.
Remember though to use a sealant, otherwise the UV will react with the plastic and you will need to do this again in the near future.

I've used the Blue Magic coating, it didn't last a year for me but they make no claims about longevity.

Used the same products as the original poster along with a Porter Cable buffer and my lights came out great. Thanks for the info.

I see in the reviews people mention using it on headlights that haven't been polished (and therefore still have the factory UV protection on them), or are just reporting back after a couple months.
