HOW TO: Wiring ARB Deluxe Bumper Turn Signal / Marker Lights

This post will focus on how to wire the Turn Signal / Marker Lights that come with your ARB Bumper. This will be done on my 2008 4Runner Sport Edition with Daytime Running Lights DRL).

1. Mount the ARB lights into your bumper.
2. Remove the Plastic Hood Trim cover.
3. Remove your headlight (3 tops screws and 1 sneaky hidden side fender screw, all 10mm).
4. Unplug your headlight and remove.
5. Locate the 3 pin grey connector that has 3 wires coming from it on the truck. Here is where the meat starts.
6. Find and install a suitable ground for each ARB Turn Signal / Marker Lamp.

7. Tap into the parking lamp and turn signal/DRL. See attached picture.

The Driver's side turn signal/DRL is Red w/ black stripe. The Passenger's side is Red w/ yellow stripe.

The Parking Lamps which come on when you turn your headlights on are Green for both sides.

*Warning; some people have reported the DRL which stay on all the time have caused their housings or lenses to melt. Consider installing CANBUS LED's for the 1156 bulb. If you buy cheaper 1156 LED bulbs without CANBUS your turn signals will flash fast as if there was a dead bulb.

8. Connectors: What does ARB use? Their Turn Signal / Marker Light uses a 3 pin "Sumitomo Type 250"

I used the "ET - ETN - Armlock Type - CN(B)- 250 Connectors" from Cycleterminal.com. You have to buy the connector housing and terminals.

I use a cheap "GM Delphi Weatherpack Crimper Tool" which goes for about $20 instead of the real expensive ratcheting type crimpers. Buy extra terminals if you don't have experience with connectors or bypass the ARB connector with your own home preference.

Materials:
Connector housing and Terminals
Wire Crimper
Electrical Tape (I prefer TESA Tape)
Butt Connectors for splicing into factory wiring
Automotive GXL Wire 12 AWG (don't use cheap wire!)

NOTES:
Headlight(w/ daytime running light)
* This system is designed to automatically activate the turn signal lights during the daytime to keep the car highly visible to
other vehicles. This system is controlled by the body ECU.
This system makes use of the turn signal lights as daytime running lights.
For this reason, when the turn signal lights are operated, the daytime running lights function is interrupted momentarily,
which, however, will be brought back into operation as soon as the turn signal is switched off.

Tail light relay trips the 10A TAIL FUSE powers your Front Parking Lights.

15A TURN HAZARD FUSE powers your Daytime Running Lights (DRL) and your Turn Signals. The DRL Relay/Turn Signal Flasher Relay tells your headlights when to have the DRL on and when to flash it when you turn on the turn signal.

Picture attached of Fog Lights and Turn Signal / Marker Lights installed. For the fog lights I followed the fog light mod on here with success.

So I wired up my lights wrong because my headlights (low beam) stopped working. My arb turn signals and fog lights work properly.

If I recall correctly the arb turn signal had 4 wires. In step 6 you made a grounding point on the frame of the 4runner and attached one of the turn signal wires?

Trying to figure out what I did wrong. I’m sure it’s some grounding issue? For the turn signal I joined the 2 black/ground wires together and connected them to the provided arb connector plug.

Your arb turn signal / marker lights have three wires coming from the connector. You need to ground one of those wires.

The other two wires control marker and turn signal. One is green for both sides. The other is Red black or Red yellow depending on which side you are on.

So I had my front bumper put in my '07 Sport 4WD a while ago by a shop that was an authorized ARB retailer.

The turn signals work flawlessly. And by that, I mean "like they should".

However, the indicator/signal lights have this one peculiarity, and I'm wondering if you - or anyone else - has encountered this, or is otherwise easily able to identify the root cause of.

When daylight running lights or 'no' lights are on, the left indicator will stay on for some time over 60secs and under 5mins... and then goes out. Until I activate the turn signal in that direction - then stays on, for a bit longer.

The other night, I was in front of the vehicle boiling some clams while the dog was in the passenger seat enjoying some heat with a moonlit bowl of kibble after coming in from the dark rainy shores. I noticed that the left indicator went out - I'm used to seeing that and have known for some time...

However, I think sometime between 5 and 10mins after turning car on... the right one went out! This was my clam light... my beacon in the darkness. And poof - gone! Of course, I had to go check right away if it was burnt.

It isn't!

It just "timed out", like my left one does. But at a different time. Same thing... toggle the light setting OR use the turn signal... and it is back on.

So...

Does anyone have any clue at all of why this is happening? Also, does anyone know how I can unify these, or even figure out how to keep them on vs. off?

It is rather annoying when I'm driving on populated roads (less frequent than most, granted - but still...) and my left indicator goes out unless I flick the turn signal that direction every so often.

Any help is much appreciated!

Do you have aftermarket LED's in those sockets?

The arb bumper has two lights, one signal and one running light per side. Can you elaborate that you have the market and signal lights separate?

My passenger side led turn signal just stopped working. The white light works. The other side works fine. Any ideas or tips before I start crawling under the truck in the snow?

No way to tell without getting in there. Could be a bad bulb or a wiring issue.
