So this happened over the weekend....

Was towing my trailer home empty, went over a pretty serious bridge expansion joint and the trailer went crazy. Came up and bit my ass.

Got a REAL bad feeling the insurance will total my truck. Trailer is done for sure.

Yikes. Glad it wasn't any worse than that!

Looks like just the tailgate and maybe the driver tail light? You could probably locate a tailgate in that color from a front end collision vehicle.

Glad it's just the vehicle with damage and not the occupants!

I was doing 65....probably to fast. Trailer had been a perfect tow for 200 miles. Hit an angled expansion joint coming off a bridge and it started skipping side to side. Tried to accel slightly to pull it back in line, but no bueno.

I just hit a deer over the weekend and have been surfing car-part.com... Kinda amazed at what's on there.

If it's not into the quarter panel, might be able to find one that even matches. Can't quite tell your color and not in your area but saw this one...

Edit: and it's only $376

This happened because a shorty azz trailer to begin with is a train wreck waiting to happen. And the axle in middle multiplies the effect even worse. The smallest movement from tow rig at the ball is a huge multiplied effect. A longer trailer with its axle 2/3 back or a little more towards the back is not that big of a deal in terms of swerving back and forth. And unloaded that shorty azz trailer did the death wobble. Be glad the 4 runner stopped it or u woulda been scewed.

Yeah, I was dragging home and straight to the welder for a new adjustable length tongue. I knew as it was was WAY to short, thought I was good to go at 65 (I had worked up to it over a bunch of miles). Should have stuck with original plan and used US highways to get home.

My girlfriend thought it was a bad day.

I thought it was a great day....I didn’t hurt anyone or myself.

Funny how they know sometimes.

Wife asked me to take the long way home, I chose the shorter way. Result; we got to see a pedestrian take a flying lesson off a honda civic. Hate that shit.

I’ve decided to pull my claim. Going to flatbed the trailer home and straight to the welder for a serious makeover. Going to pick up a tailgate tomorrow (very minor damage to upper lip behind seal on body of truck). They wanted 2 deductibles, and it was an act of congress to actually talk to someone. After 20+ years of USAA it time to move on.
