Better turn signal bulbs?

I have no serious complaints about the apparently OEM turn signal bulbs that are just going out after 11 years lol... But while I'm buying I thought I would ask what you guys have found to work well in this modern era? I see Phillips, Sylvania, Bosch, Wagner conventional bulbs for the purpose but wonder: are they all the same from some mass chinese maker?? In pictures, the Wagner appear to be a little darker shade of amber, unlit, and I've had good success with Wagner offroad stuff on motorcycles, but haven't employed on my truck yet.

LED?

What have you found?

What year, front or rear signals, and what's your budget? I have a few recommendations but depending on the actual lamp assembly some may not fit.

I used LEDs from amazon.. significant brighter and cleaner then OEM.. however they will hyperflash without a resistor.

For the rears these are ridiculously bright (you'll see spots from staring at them) Built-in load resistors so you won't have to wire anything else...

US No Error Amber 21W 7440 Car LED Front Rear Turn Singal Light Fit Infiniti | eBay - been running these on my 3rd-gen and parent's GX470 rear signals.

$5 more from these guys, good customer service. Car Indicator Light LED Replacement Bulbs — iJDMTOY.com

There is a 1156 (bulb type for your fronts) version of these too but I can't verify if they'll fit, they're longer than the incandescent bulbs they replace.

Do you have DRLs? Practically every load-resistored LED I've seen/used weren't designed for constant-on use due to heat. These are in my 3rd-gen's front signals (has no DRLs) and are also ridiculously bright Alla Lighting 1156 1159 Plug and Play Turn Signal Light Bulb,No Resistors Needed | eBay

These are also decent, I use them on other vehicles. Not ridiculously bright like the above bulbs though, I'd say a little brighter than incandescent, and they require resistors or a LED-compatible flasher...

Rears (and '03-'05 fronts) 7440: Profile Peak - 7443/7440 - Bulbs By Size - LED Lighting

Fronts 1156: Profile Peak - Bulbs By Size - LED Lighting

I purposely linked Lightwerkz because they usually have promo discounts, at the moment 15% off for first-time customers.

So you have had good success with these bulbs? I tried this set from Amazon and even though they say they have built in load resistors I got hyper flash on the fronts.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have the non-resistor set in the rears and they are super bright, I wish they worked as advertised with the resistors.

The front signals are my only set of incandescents to replace on the entire car, so it would be nice to find a pair that worked with no hyper flash.

I use LED's from Diode Dynamics for the entire interior of my 4runner and also the rear turn signals and backup lights. The quality is amazing. Made in USA. They're based out of St. Louis. You will need to change the resistor ($10 from the website) for the turn signals if you switch to LED's. LED's give a very crisp and clean look. Worth it imo.

Do you have DRLs and does the hyperflash happen immediately or after several minutes with the DRLs on?

But yes, I've been running the 1156 versions (same LED assemblies, just different base) on the GX for a few years now. Even before I switched to a LED-compatible flasher relay I did not experience any hyper flash, but I also had the DRLs bypassed.

Yes I have DRLs. For me it was intermittent. It would happen right off the bat when I turned on the signal, sometimes steady out after a few seconds, sometimes not.

What did you do for the DRL bypass?

On the GX I did it via scan tool (worked for Lexus at the time), but you can just disconnect the DRL "trigger" wire to the flasher relay mentioned here Toyota 4Runner DRL Mod. You could also swap to a non-DRL flasher, but it requires an adapter harness (around $15)...which is what I ended up doing later on.

Responding to this and the above - yes, DRL's on all the time.. I guess this was default for all 4th gens? I think changing to new front 1156 may have wobbled my rear on the same side - I got the fast-flash yesterday. Comes & goes... does that mean something else is amiss? Relay? Flasher?

Not all were, DRLs were a $40 option which included replacing the flasher with a DRL specific one.

I'd check the front bulb you just replaced, maybe it's not seated in correctly.
