steering wheel upgrade - possible?

I have the 06 SR5 V6 and wanted to upgrade my steering wheel to be able to control the audio....

I am assuming that is an option and where the heck would i get it done/order it? prices?

I hate the placement of the radio - i think it is too high up. Maybe i am just lazy - who knows.

any help appreciated, i am not upgrade saavy....

thanks!!

I do remember reading somewhere on this forum that someone did this. They had to change the airbag and the steering wheel to accomodate the controls. Not sure about the price. I tend to prefer to stay away from messing with the airbags.

Yeah someone did an upgrade on the steering wheel. he said it was a pain in the ass and wished he hadn't done it........IIRC........

that being said, I'd love to have the lexus steering wheel where it has a glazed wooden part at the top. I guess I grip my wheel too tightly (especially after a bad day at the office) and it tends to leave marks on the leather.

at one point i thought of doing this but it would be too costly.. i wish it could have been easier.. pull out the old wheel and slap on the new one.... no airbags to worry about

One option is to upgrade your stereo. If you go to crutchfield.com and look around you can get a new stereo head unit and then get a steering wheel control for it that you can attach to your steering wheel.

Hope that helps

This is easier to do, many members have done this. You dont need to take the airbag out or anything. You can usually get the actual wheel part on ebay (not the horn and airbag center part but the outside wheel) for like 300, and replace it with your leather one (or rubber) and send your original back to the place you bought the wood one from.
