Factory Bluetooth Stereo Hack

So I am starting to do some investigation on my 08 4Runner SR5 factory head unit. After reading the owner manual I see there was an option to have what Toyota is calling an Auxillary adapter.

Which for the layman basically is an 1/8 female stereo jack located in the center console. Since my T4R is pretty much a plane Jane it probably does not have this adapter. But... that means that the wiring is already in the head unit to support this adapter.. and I can tap into that.

Does anyone have any wiring schematics for the Base Model CD Headunit.. I think its a Pioneer.. Owners manual refers to it as a Type 1 with a CY17067 as a model number? I can probably use the factory wiring harness pinouts.. Looking for the AUX connector and pinouts.. and the remote wire pinout for 12V+.

The goal is to spend as little as possible to get my phone to play through the factory system. I have done this before with older 90's vehicles.. as well as my 98 T4R.

Thanks,

Rob

If it has the aux input it'll be under a cover in the center console. (front of the console)

I've seen references for doing an AUX input in place of the CD player in a DIY fashion. I went with GROM audio for phone charging and play through USB. It plugs into the back and interrupts the CD player. but keeps the functionality of both. (I also have bluetooth in the car already with the nav system)

aux jack will be in the center console lower right corner.

However, we used one of these to add services to my son's saturn. Less than $20 music, calls, plays from usb stick. Pretty cool.

I did something like this but I used a bluetooth adapter and simply wired it into the aux. Granted it was separate controls but everything from the phone went through the speakers. The bluetooth adapter itself had track controls and it could be placed anywhere.

Similar to what someone else posted above, I bought one of these for our 2008 4runner and for the price, am quite pleased. Occasionally I get a bit of static noise, but otherwise, can't beat it for $20. Only annoying if you constantly have multiple people driving it because of diff. cell phone syncs. But if you're really the only one driving it, it's great:

Love mine! The only time I hear any sorta white noise is when nothing is playing. Other than that it’s crystal clear and sounds great. Waze and phone calls sound great, too. I googled the best unused frequency to in my area.

If you're still looking at options, here is what I installed in my 03 LTD a few years ago and I am still plenty happy with it. I mentioned some minor annoyances in the writeup but I've just learned to live with them.

I installed this in mine over a year ago, and it works great. Mine replaced my six disc changer because in 2019 I don't need six discs, I really don't even need the one in the HU. Ultimately the other options like the FM transmitters will be easier, but this one is really clean and sounds great, and you hear no white noise or engine whine ever. Steering wheel controls are maintained, you can pick up and answer calls from steering wheel, it's great.

I will look into the other options listed above.

Tried the FM/Bluetooth and its pretty craptacular.

Works when it wants, then randomly drops, or just heavy static.
Maybe I have a bad device but this is bad enough I want to avoid.

Been a week and I cannot say enough good things about this device. No dropped music or calls, connects quickly as soon as I get in, and sounds great. I opted for this, as opposed to the newer version as this got better reviews and is cheaper. I’m actually only aggravated about one thing...I waited years to get one!
