OEM Engine front Under Cover ("skid plate")

I took off my front skid plate today and this piece came tumbling out, rusted off. Can anyone tell me the purpose of it? It has bolt holes, but I didn't take any bolts out of it, just the 4 bolts to drop the skid. I can't see anywhere that it would attach to on the frame.

It is the part of the front skid that 'bumps' up to a frame member so you can jack the front of your 4Runner with a (proper rated) floor jack. In other words, it is a reinforced jack point for your vehicle...so, leave it off (non critical) and don't jack up your 4runner there.

Looks like it held in moisture at that point and rotted away...should have been designed better by Toyota.

Makes sense, I'll just leave it out when I put the cover back on. Thanks for the quick reply.

Just put a hole in that area so that if you need to jack it up, it goes straight to the frame.
