Huh, I have never seen a stretched chain on any Toyota transfer case made in the last 20yrs (not saying it doesn't happen; just that I haven't seen or heard one in my neck of the woods.)

Those things are frickin' tight fitting between the two main gearsets and are pretty damn stout; I would suspect the gear teeth wear out before the chain does.

I've seen cases where they're all locked up and such from the actuators taking a shit or the customer doing dumb stuff and the chains seemed fine. I'm really curious what is going on in your neck of the woods.
