FJ wheels with falken 265/70/17 rubbing

Pic attached, sorry for the crappy quality

07 sport 2WD

As the title states, just had these installed on some falken wildpeaks. Rubbed like crazy on the fender liner, pushed those forward and I thought that fixed the issue, but there’s still an ever so slight rub and I cannot determine where exactly. I read some threads and someone mentioned that FJ wheels may not be a good choice for the sport edition?

Currently have a 2.5 daystar spacer lift. Full Dobinsons 2” lift going on Thursday. One more note, I believe I had to have the caster maxed out when I initially installed the daystar to fix highway wandering.

Anyone have any idea what my current problem is resulting from?

So this is likely due to the back spacing of the wheel and how far it sticks out based on its shape and width. TRD PRO wheels, FJ cruiser wheels and other after market wheels are designed for a more "aggressive stance" and are wider for stability off roading

Briefly, I believe that the FJ cruiser wheel is about 1/2 inch wider and will sit 15 mm (another half inch) farther from the wheel hub. As a result the wheel sticks about an inch from stock. You're likely okay when driving straight ahead, but when you turn, I imagine that is where you're having trouble.

Its one of the draw backs to wheel spacers that people dont understand. they lift and space and then dont understand the geometry. Take a look at it with the wheel turned the whole way in each direction, and see what adjustments/ cutting you need.

This thread will give you more info Trying to underdstand backspacing and offset

After your next lift I think you will be fine ..but as previously stated have someone in the car at a stop and crank wheel all the way left and all the way right and hold... you will see where it’s running near bottom of liner/ flare..

Maxing out the caster with the lower control arm adjustments pushes the wheel forward, also contributing to your rubbing. While you're doing your next lift, you might want to consider after market upper control arms which will allow the extra caster you want while keeping the LCA adjustment roughly centered, and thus move the wheel back from where it is now.

Thanks for the help gentleman. I figured out the rub is on the actual fender, right side only. Hoping the lift and alignment alleviate this issue. Sure glad I didn’t go to 275/70s
