I prefer the 4th gen to the 5th. Its very much the same chassis and engine

The Sports also had a aluminum spare and of course the hood scoop. The round running boards and roof rack. They had the dark cloth and interior. Sports have a smoked grill and headlights. They also had nicer 17" wheels.

You mentioned the electric seats, xreas, larger brakes.

In my search I'm running across decently priced Lexus SUVs. Any reason not to go with them over a 4runner?

the GX has the stupid side hinged rear door like a rav4, vs the top hinged 4runner rear door. this single fact is why i am looking at 4th v8 vs the GX

Yep a GX 470 is a deal. A lot of them were garage queens too

For some reason I always find the Lexus SUVs are cheaper than the 4Runner. I'm not sure why since the drivetrain should be identical and the interior is nicer. I have tried to talk my wife into trying one of them for years, but she doesn't like the swing door either.

So I've located a 2006 V8 SR5. Has electric seats and sunroof. No issues with 4x4. Clean Carfax. I've offered the seller $5,500. He said if I'm serious about buying he'd sell it for that. Thoughts? It has 200k on it. TB/WP was done at 135k, so it will be due relatively soon. He's a small time dealer, truck was bought from a dealer auction from a Toyota dealership. His car lot is not working out so he's closing it down, or I'd think he'd be more firm on his $6900 asking price.

What does the underbody look like? Rust will usually start at the lower radiator support, but if the frame looks clean it sounds like a good deal especially if you can do the timing belt job yourself.

Going to see it hopefully today. Initial pics of undercarriage look good. Some surface rust on the frame. Plugged vin into Toyota's website last night and TB and WP were actually done at 136k in 2015. So I'll have a while to wait on that, which is good. It for sure will need new tires and suspension, bushings, rack, ps pump, and ball joints will be suspect after that many miles. I'm just trying to figure out if it's a "killer" deal or if I should keep looking. Looking at FB marketplace and autotrader people are still asking 7-8k with that mileage.

Sounds like a solid deal if everything checks out rust-wise. Make sure to check 4LO as well

I think if no rust and the 4 lo is working it sounds like a great deal to me, it's been 7 to 8 hours since your last post, did you go and look at it, if so what the verdict?

Went and looked. Unfortunately it was an absolute rust bucket. Owner was not truthful when I spoke to him. Search continues.

Got my eyes on a 2006 gx470 now. It has 242k but is in fantastic shape. Hoping I can get it for $6500. It does have the kdss suspension. I hear this is nice but is also a potential trouble point for these trucks? I don't know much about the kdss yet. I know it has the knob for ride height and comfort of sport.
