OEM filter (should be $5-6, even at the dealer), Amsoil Signature Series synthetic is rad but pricey. Mobil 1 is great and much easier to find.

Engine masters did a whole thing on your oil killing horsepower. They swear by AMSOIL. Of course that's their sponsor so take that for what it's worth...

I get my filters from McGeorge Toyota for $3.75 each but have to pay shipping, I usually get at least 6 or so and try to get any other parts I need at the same time and the shipping is the same, they also have very low prices on all other parts and well.

“On this episode of Engine Masters presented by AMSOIL, we explain how oil kills power—because it’s not about synthetic versus regular oil and not about a brand-to-brand comparison, but about windage and oil-pan design. We take a 700hp big-block Chevy and show you how too much oil can kill 20 hp”

Same reaction when I watch YouTube reviews.

"Company A gave me this expensive product to review for you, but I'm going to be totally unbiased....." I usually skip that video or just watch for feature demonstrations.

I have been running Amsoil signature series in my fleet of 35 cars for 11 years. The difference is clear to me. For use the gains aren't in horsepower. The engine protection is excellent. We have vehicles with 400k on original motors, the only reason we get rid of them as the body style has become dated (we're a black car / limousine service)

The 2nd benefit, and this surprises some people, is cost. Let me preface this buy saying we buy it in bulk (30 gallons drums). However, a 7 qt oil change with an Amsoil Filter is about $78. The oil and filters we use are rated for 25k miles. I change them every 15k. If someone were paying labor on their oil changes a 7qt oil change with conventional or synth blend would be in the ballpark of $30 at a cheapo Jiffy lube type place. Even at 5k intervals that's $90... so it actually costs more. On top of that you had to get it done 2 extra times for those 15k miles.

Lastly we saw a decent gain in fuel economy when I took the time to run the numbers. I don't remember the exact numbers now because I did it back when we first considered making the switch over. But with the number of cars we run and the total mileage it was a significant savings.

I'll get off my Amsoil soapbox. But I always sing its praises when I get an opportunity. As the fleet manager and sole mechanic for this facility it has made my life very very nice. Our average sedan does 70k miles per year, so you can do the math on how often I would be changing the oil with shorter interval products.

For the 4.0 the Amsoil filter would be a EA15K51 - That's at 15k service interval filter.

I would pair that with their 5w30 Signature series oil for the best protection and 15k service interval, or the XL series oil and change it at 10-12k instead.

Cheers

You don’t have to sing Amsoil’s praises to me. For the lay person who is buying it by the quart or jug or whatever, it’s hard to find and a bit pricier than what you probably get it for. If it were easier for me to find Signature Series at a decent price ($88/gal on Amazon?!) I’d use it for sure, but I can head to my local Napa and get Mobil 1 a lot easier.

Shell Rotella T6 5w40, go look it up. Much cheaper than Mobil1 and a better oil. Not saying Mobil1 is bad but there are less expensive options.

You can order it directly from Amsoil.com

$13/qt for signature series
$52/gallon
$18/filter

I spec'd out 6 quarts of oil and a filter it would be $111 with shipping and tax.

If you spend over $100 they waive the $8.99 shipping charge (it was $96.30 before shipping )

Just food for thought if you decide Amsoil is worth it to you. It may not be.
