Another rear window / wiper thread

Hey all, sorry to have to post this, but I have not seen a good solution. If there is one already out there, please share. I replaced the radio in the wife's 4th gen V8. After that the rear wiper and rear window no longer work. The window doesnt work from the remote, key or dash button. I have moved the wiper up and down as much as I could, but no go. I have read everything from fuse to relay to ECU. I dont think its the fuse because the rear door windows work. Not sure if there is a relay somewhere. If it is the ECU, is this user replaceable? Any suggestions?

Thanks

Lower your rear hatch window all the way down and than up again. Think there is a reset contact. You probably disconnected the battery during your radio install. Sorry, didn't notice you mentioned the rear window is inop.

As mentioned by rancho66 if you disconnected the battery the windows, rear hatch and sunroof need to be "normalized", usually you have to do all of them separately but since you have no functions on the rear hatch maybe just normalizing the driver's door window will make everything work again,

Here a search on the subject the first 3 topics/posts describes how to do the normalization process and hopefully just doing to driver's window will work to get the hatch to function, if so you may still need to do the process for the hatch window to get all functions back to normal, also the rear wiper will not work unless the window is completely closed.

https://www.toyota-4runner.org/searc...archid=6943124

In the first topic look for post number 23

Second topic post number 3

Third topic post number 2

If it still doesn't work the rear hatch may not be completely latched/closed, open it and make sure there nothing there stopping it from closing completely and then close it and try again.

All of these functions are controlled by the "Body ECM" which can be replaced but it's not cheap and may have to be programmed by the dealer.

The window, wiper and rear defrost stopped working. No activity from the switch, the key, the rear wiper control or the rear window button. Door is latched properly and passenger rear windows roll up and down fine. So it sounds like a bad body ECU. I assume this is the one in the hatch itself. Anyone have any other ideas? Thanks

does the rear window roll down with the key in the rear door lock, not the remote ??? you have to hold the key for a few seconds in I think counterclockwise position.

Here is a wiring pdf

At the bottom of the PDF there is a lot of good info like this;

* When the battery terminal or fuse is disconnected, the glass position of all doors have to be reset to the initial positions,
door by door, by the power window control switch in accordance with the following procedure:
A) Reconnect the battery terminal or fuse.
B) Turn ON the ignition switch.
C) Lower the window of each door by the power window switch to open it halfway or more.
D) Then move the window up by the power window switch to close it fully.
Do not release the switch for at least one second after the window is fully closed.

No, the rear window does not roll up or down using any method. All other windows work fine. Rear wiper, rear wiper wash and defrost don't work. The rear defrost won't even illuminate when pressed so it looks like no power is getting to them.

Thanks for the wiring diagram.

I would check the power to the back door ECU, if it is there then maybe an Ebay replacement to see if it is fried. Given the situation I would think either a connector/wire was loosened during the install or the back door ecu is bad.

Did you check fuse under the hood labeled ECU-B

Another conversation I found

""Hi guys,
Its been a year, Since first problem has occurred, first, a rear hatch lock stopped working. Then rear wiper, then rear washer, then rear window defogger, then inside rear light was gone, then a fuse responsible for rear components was burned a few times. I was disconnecting all those back door options one by one off. Even I physically disconnected wiring I wasn’t sure what is causing problem. And just recently back door window stuck in lower position. To make it short, I went back to reading forums and in my own post i found a right answer. A forum member “KBALL” from Toyota nation sad to check wires going from car body to rear hatch, I pulled back a rubber boot, BINGO all 15 wires were broken off. I soldered all wires, reconnected all components and everything works since then.""

2min and 4 sec into this video shows where https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEiVL91rkSk

Does this back door open ??

OK so forgive me if I am poking and hoping here but there is a lot of weird rear window fixes. The main problem descibed by all the mechs is that nothing works if the car does not know the window is up, getting the window to cycle at least once may be the cure.

One involves manually moving your rear wiper to make sure it is in it's docked position and cycling it on and off so that it docks itself.

The other involves cycling your windows locked switch from form the drivers door.

Another was holding the rear window dash switch in up and down positions for 15 seconds.

Another is this, although I do not know what year the runner was;

""Next to the fuse box there are two circute breakers,in the center of the two breakers is a small hole take a tooth pick and push into the hole to reset the breaker,if I beleive the rear window breaker is nearest to the fuse box?? this should do the trick.""
