Oh nice - I actually have those on delivery by Friday. I originally went with the Dobinsons units but they are backordered until the end of February (I ordered during Black Friday lol) so I cancelled them.

Good to know - I plan on running 17x8 (0 offset 4.5" BS) with 285/70R17s and by me research, this should fit fine. If not, BMC really isn't that big a deal to me, my mechanic can weld the plate on if I decide I need it. Thanks again!

Also, 285's are STILL not 33's and you yourself mentioned that they rub and they are not even big enough to call 33's yet.
What the hell are you talking about? Give me one source other than your local muffler shop guy or your dad that says aspect ratio effects what you call a tire.

Do you even realize what you just said? The definition of a "33" is a tire with a diameter equal to 33 inches, PERIOD. Within the designation of a 33 inch tire are 33x10.5, 33x11.5, 33x10.2, 33x13 and ANY tire with a diameter between 33.0 and 33.9 inches, regardless of ANY width. If tire width determined what name you call a tire, wouldn't you call your 33s "12.5s"

Aspect ratio plays absolutely NO part in the designation of when we call a tire by its height. Read that again.

What a stupid concept. So absolutely stupid in fact I ask for ANY type reputable source that believes tire WIDTH determines the name given to a tire because of its height.

I know anonymity allows people to be less reserved when voicing incorrect absolutely retarded opinions but come on dude. Realize what you are saying, and begin the face-saving campaign now while you're still not well known on this forum.

To clarify in your opinion, a 34 inch tall tire isn't worthy of being called even a 33, because it's not wide enough?! Lmfao. I dont usually call people out but when someone acts like everyones an idiot except them, WHILE SAYING with a straight face "a 33 inch tall tire isn't a "33" unless it's at least ____ wide, I really cant help myself.

LMFAO, thanks for the laugh. Perhaps consider contacting moderators to change your screen name to muffdog, because that's how you look talking to everyone in this thread.

On an unrelated note, who ties your shoes in the morning?

This seems like the right place to ask. V6 with 2.5 lift front / 3 rear / icon UCA - found a deal on at3w in 255/80r17. Should I be worried about rubbing? Also will the spare fit in a stock location if I deflate it?

Hi.

You are an overlander... you and the other losers in this thread with weenie tires who have never actually been on an obstacle in their life are the only people who actually think that if you go to a catalog or a store to buy a 33, that it comes in any other size other than exactly 33." My point was (and still is) that metric equivalents which do not match the SAE size exactly are not the same. No amount of instagramming your maxtrax will change that.

Let me guess, you have never bought one. So tell me, mr overlander - what is the equivalent size of a 40 inch tire in metric and where can you buy one?

On top of that, even Jeep Wranglers come with metric equivalent tire sizes from the factory. Up to and including 35's, tires are sold primarily in metric sizes unless you are running a Mud Terrain. Given that very few 4runners are trailer rigs most of us are running ATs or hybrids. Plus, with the body mount location and relatively narrow wheel wells of the 4runner, using metric sizing which gives more control over width, makes more sense. That said, when we're discussing what height we want to run, we will probably say something like "33's" because it gives other people chances to suggest alternate tire size that will give us similar heights, i.e. 255/80/17 vs 265/70/18.

Also, for good or ill, this is a very lightly moderated forum. Most others I've seen, a troll this.... special would end up in lock city.

That one's only 39.8" tall. Therefore it isn't a 40.

The Kenda Klever RT comes in a 33x10.5r17. Are those 33" tires?

Don't forget that even inch sized tire descriptions are rounded up and down to the nearest inch. Like the 40x13.5R17LT STT Pro for example. It's not 40in diameter, it's actually 39.75. But it's close enough to call it a 40. Same with metric, they round up or down to the nearest inch conversion for comparison purposes.

wow! Its hard to believe how dumb you are. First, the link you provided doesn't work, and second, did you actually look at what you typed? I guess any size tire that is round is exactly the same as any other size tire to overlanders. Which is probably perfect considering you never go off road. Since I have 33" tires, does that mean I get to say I have 35" tires just because its "close"? For your reference, here is what a 39" tire (the size you listed) looks like next to a 40 inch tire.
