Since I have 33" tires, does that mean I get to say I have 35" tires just because its "close"? For your reference, here is what a 39" tire (the size you listed) looks like next to a 40 inch tire.

Get over yourself. Link works for me and worked for other people. Just tried it again.
Tire mounted size is listed as 39.8". You aren't going to find an SAE tire that is exactly 40" or 33 or 35. Get over the semantics. And your use of the word overlander makes me thing you really don't know shit of what wheeling is about. I've done "overlanding", I've done "rack crawling", I've done "mudbogging". It's all the same shit in the end.

Them damn racks keep getting in the way, don't they. And no, thats not true dude. I measured my non-metric tire and it was exactly 33, but then I measured the metric equivalent and it was 32. Its really not the same at all and makes it confusing if someone is trying to compare tire sizes.

My point was (and still is) that metric equivalents which do not match the SAE size exactly are not the same. No amount of instagramming your maxtrax will change that.
Let me guess, you have never bought one. So tell me, mr overlander - what is the equivalent size of a 40 inch tire in metric and where can you buy one?
|
To be completely fair, your original claim was "to be a 33 inch tire, it has to be 12.5 inches wide" so your continued hole-digging and claim changing to beat around the real reason you look so ignorant, and the reason people are beating you like an old farm donkey, just makes it that much more apparent.
So, let me tell you who I am and what I do for a living so you can be as informed and respectful as other forum members who are making you like an idiot.
I own and operate a 3 day, 600 mile TSD rally. This rally sends competitors through the most unforgiving terrain in Appalachia. In 2018 we had 69 teams begin my rally, and at the end of day 3 less than half of those remained. All of these competitors quit because of vehicle failure or driver fatigue. Vehicle failure and driver fatigue were the only reasons given for forfeiture. Since beginning the rally our average attrition rate is 49.3%. Half (well almost half since you're such the numbers stickler) of our competitors fail to finish every year.
To further solidify your position as the official forum idiot:
My entire life is centered around travelling the country to locate and drive the hardest trails in the USA. I have driven Rubicon trail, Cliffhanger in Moab (Level 8- highest difficulty rating), Steel Bender (Level 7) and Metal Masher (Level 7) to name a few but I fully expect you to discount those trails as "easy" while on your 33s so I will continue.
I recently completed a 38 day expedition mapping those trails. I spent this time traveling the country to locate the obstacles you claim I "never been on in my life." Subsequently, I have been featured in Toyota Cruisers and Trucks Magazine, and Southern Automitive Alliance magazine for not only driving but living on these trails for a month and a half straight.
But I'm not done wiping the floor with that ass just yet.. I also drive a FJ60 on 37s, SOA conversion, cut and turn front axle, marlin crawler hi-steer, longer leaf springs, locked front and rear, 4.88s etcetera etcetera. The wheelbase has also been stretched 7 inches. Does a bright young fellow like yourself know WHY people fabricate a stretched wheelbase of their 4x4s? (This is the moment you open a new tab and google "why do people lengthen their 4x4 wheelbase") A person of your intellect will be amazed at why I've done this..
This still may not be enough cred for you though, so I'll refrain from calling those tires on my 60 "37s" and call them 36.9 instead.. but I digress.
And no, I have not ever purchased a traction board, and I rarely purchase tires My sponsors have provided many of the things we use on our expeditions as well as monetary sponsorships to cover living costs. These companies do this as a barter to me for providing financially beneficial exposure to their companies. They do this, because I drive the trails you claim I do not.
In closing:
Muffdog, you too can acquire gainful sponsorship by large, well-known companies simply by traveling the country to drive the most challenging trails the USA has to offer, just like I do. But you must learn to name tires correctly and stop talking to people like they're stupid. You have been disrespectful to people who are in the right, and instead of realizing it (like you obviously have) and apologizing or even saving face and just shutting the hell up, you continue to disrespect people as if having the word "overland" in their name reduces all credibility and knowledge. Some "overlanders" have not only driven the hardest trails in the county, but are most likely more skilled, more respected and and better known than you will ever be.
"Should I continue to argue with the forum when every post in the thread implies I'm a complete damn idiot?"

All I read was:
Waaaaaaah!!! I do a lame rally somewhere in the midwest and have a SAS car. Big whoop. Oh wait -- you lengthened a frame once!!! Holy crap, I've never heard of that in my entire life, especially not on any of the trucks that traverse trails in NorCal. You are right, you have the coolest 4x4 ever made and measuring tires is irrelevant because all tires are the same size even if they are an inch off.
Since you are into rallies - You may be interested to know that I won 1st place in Navigation for the Nevada Trophy in Dec 2019. And our teammate won 1st overall. Yes! - First Place in the most difficult and oldest off road rally in the USA. I would love to see you at the next Nevada Trophy rally. It would be fun to race against someone with so much misplaced confidence. I'm sure you think you already won as well!
In closing:
You were always wrong, your rally is lame and I would beat you at your own game without even trying. My full-exo 89 4runner twin-locked with custom hydrostatic transfer case is not actually scared of whatever fart-can POS truck that you think you can build. Its just really stupid to think that you can bully your way to being right by saying: "I'm the inventor of all off road rallies!!! and I have an SAS truck, so I'm right!!!" Also, I don't need gainful sponsorships for racing, I am into engineering and proving that well engineered systems beat experience every time. I proved that with my first place finish on my very first try at the most difficult US off road rally. I have no need to be a corporate shill like you as I am successful in other arenas of my life. This thread started with me attempting to remove confusion and ended with you trying to show off how cool you are in the most desperate fashion possible, by bragging about something that has nothing to do with why tire sizes (exact tire sizes) are important. Please, PLEASE -- post of a pic of the "obstacles" that you are referring to. I am dying to see them.

What the **** did you just ****ing say about me, you little *****? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I'm the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the **** out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my ****ing words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, ****er. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You're ****ing dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your ****ing tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You're ****ing dead, kiddo. /sarcasm

In a fight? Here is what you do, my friend. Bring your chin down to protect your neck while continuing to stare in his eyes. Bring up your hands and say "I don't want no trouble ya hear. Flex your traps and core. Slightly bend your knees. Here comes the important part. In a low voice begin to say "wolowolowolowolo-wolo" slowly increasing in volume. He should be surprised by now. Begin to sway side to side and loosen all facial muscles and your anal sphincter and your kegal muscle. By now you should be pretty loud and your opponent will have stepped back and appear visibly shaken. Begin to piss and shit yourself and let your eyes roll to the back of your head. By now, you're chanting "WOLOWOLOWOLOWOLO" at the top of your lungs. He will run away. Everyone within a one mile radius will feel a terrifying presence within their soul. Marvel as you ascend into your planar form.

Ain't your fault dude! You had a legitimate question that hopefully got answered amongst all the tire size BS.
