ZLJUANN'S RallyRunner Build Thread

Ok a little bit about me. I grew up working on cars with my dad and have always had a passion for builds. From my 1994 trans am stroker build, to countless m3's, 335i's, Silverados, and 4runners, I've done my fair share.

For the last 5 years I stopped building because I wanted to concentrate on my career and finishing school. when I was 27, about 3 years ago, I ordered my 2017 Camaro ZL1 that I received March 2017 and have kept stock since then. 3 years forward to now, I find myself in a place where I can now do the fun things while being somewhat responsible financially.

So here we are. This new dream started 6 months ago. I had owned a 2005 2wd v8 Camburg LT rig that was bought built, but it didn't cut it for me. Sold it and bought a stock 2003 v8 4wd limited and that was fun but still didn't cut it. sold that as well. Then, 5 months ago I bought another 2003 4wd limited v8 but this one had the TRD supercharger on it. So I thought, this is it. The ordering started.

Fast forward to the first week of December. I browsed craigslist for random 4runner parts and stumbled upon a 2006 Shadow Mica v8 4WD sport. It had a bad engine. I called up the person and drove up 2 days later to pick it up. So now I have 2 4runner v8 4wd vehicles sitting in my driveway. I truly fell in love with the sport facelift model so I decided to keep that one and give my dad the supercharged one. So here starts the build.

1/08/2020 - Decided to step down in size to 285 70 17 BFG KO. BFG seems to run small for its size but the 305 70 17 BFG KM2 were insanely heavy with no gearing

3/17/2020 - I installed some used Icon Omega dual bypass shocks. I sacrificed an inch of shock travel in exchange for tuneability. Also, I hadn’t fully committed to a welded in upper shock mount so this was more reliable than my bolt in experiment. This will do until I go 12” king triple bypass.

4/21/2020 - I decided that I hated the sag while towing the boat so I installed the firestone coil-rite 9” air bags. So far, I like the ride.

4/22/2020 - I got bored so I chopped off my muffler. I took the stock resonator and welded it in place of the muffler. I think it sounds pretty good and it’s not loud at all. I will most likely weld in a bend to point down at a 45 degree angle. Once the quarantine is over, Ill have a custom y pipe and muffler set up.

4/24/2020 - I mounted up a set of method 312 bronze 17x8.5 with 285 70 17 km3’s. I think these are the keepers. Heavy as all hell, but they look fantastic. It will be a good excuse to mount the custom bumper mount spare tire swing out.
