Auxbeam LED before/after pics
I decided to swap out my old halogens with some LED's from Amazon. The LED's were only $50 shipped-- why not try them out?
Picture album link.
- The low beams have a much cleaner/clearer light with a nicer spread incorporating more peripheral coverage, but it's difficult to notice in the pictures. The throw distance improved a little.
- The high beams made a huge difference, obviously. The throw distance is significantly increased, but the coverage spread is a whole world different. Huge improvement.
For $50 shipped, I would do it again. That's twice the price of cheap(ish) halogens, but hopefully twice the lifespan too. Even if there weren't any performance gains from the LED's, I'm still willing to pay a few dollars to not change my headlights as frequently.

Glad to hear they're working out for you! I have a set of high beams as well and work great! The link to the picture album appears to not be working.

Unfortunately, these are actually dimmer than stock at 18 feet. You've lost focus and distance projection by switching to these.

Yes, that's the unfortunate part. They usually are brighter for the first twenty feet or so, but the focus and hotspot of the beam is completely eliminated so they taper off quickly. Your actual headlight usefulness is much worse.

I've just taken the truck over 150 miles in the middle of dark winter nights and verified that the beam thrown is markedly farther, the coverage is enormously wider, and the brightness is impressively better. It's a $50 (shipped) set of four headlights; I'm not being pretentious about this. They cost less than a tank of gas, but they appear to work better than my halogens by every metric.
I don't know what to tell you.

I also installed the Auxbeam LED's & they are very, very effective.
The guy claiming otherwise posted a link to another brand of LED's.
These are so bright on high beams I can't imagine needing a light bar.

Yes, you're right. I do apologize, I get all the brand names mixed up (auxbeam and beamtech).
I had Morimoto LED bulbs in my truck for a year. LED bulbs are indeed brighter. But their hotspot is out of focus because they can't emulate the size of a halogen filament in the focal point. I switched back to halogen and even though the foreground light is dimmer, my lights reach much further.
Best of luck to all. I encourage you to keep researching!

So what version oa Auxbeams did you get? There seems to be several different options.
