If you wheel your going to eventually have broken parts no matter what brand of vehicle you drive.

At least you won’t be paying for the parts again hopefully, Napa also makes some with a thermoplastic outer boot that many have had good luck with. I picked up a couple and plan on rebuilding the stock pieces for spares.

As said before though, if you wheel you’ll eventually break something lol.

CVJ axles sells remanufactured OEM axles. You can even get them with the red silicone inner boots already straight from CVJ. Call and they will give you all the options. They’ll take your torn ones as cores so you can recoup some of the cost as long as they are OEM.

I appreciate all the input and that Napa lifetime doesn't sound like a bad option except for I essentially can't deal with bringing a broken part to a Napa I pretty much bring the truck to the mechanic and have to have him take care of everything within a day or two I don't think that he is going to deal with a warranty process for me this is why I am contemplating buying an oem assembly for 360 dollars and handing them to him later this week

Can anyone confirm that $360 assembly for me or could he potentially run into needing more than just that?

I am going to ask him if any of his vendors have a lifetime option a few weeks ago he said he didnt for calipers so I'm not confident he's going to offer anything like that

just got quote from toyota.

about $2200 for both sides CV with seals and diff oil.

$830 installed axle + $130 seal + $130 diff oil/2, $65 (x2 for both sides)

thats true, but main axles are a much bigger deal (for ones that wont break wheeling weekly) than components aside from a solid front axle...pretty big difference, no?

But CV shafts are easy. I bought ones with exploded boots from another member on here and rebooted them myself and installed them. Used OEM shafts on ebay are $70 each, buy the SDHQ boots or something cheap and rebuild them with new grease. It surprises me that yours are somehow clicking, they usually seem to last a while without dying. Usually at least 175k miles.

I think you're overthinking it. Unless you're doing some serious rock crawling, rebooting your OEM's or buying NAPA Lifetime ones and rebooting the ones on there as spares is the way to go. Others have recommended CVJ...yes, they are OEM axles but they are refurbished. And, they have NO warranty if you have a lifted vehicle. So with that said I wish I would have just went NAPA and then carried one of my spare OEM's. But, I bought CVJ's and bought a new spare thru Rock Auto as I was going to be on the road for 6mos and wanted a new spare to limp me back to wherever. I wouldn't go the CVJ OEM route again as it's a waste of money.

And swapping axles is so easy. Learn the truck and do it yourself. Once you've done one side you'll kick yourself for not doing it yourself before. It really is THAT easy.

thanks, i think finally getting proper jack stands and some tools in future is what im going to do...maybe a moped on standby instead of a daily in case i need to take it on my 7 min 1-way commute. i have a garage but the house and truck are new for me, the truck is a bigger scale than ive wrenched on before but i am capable im sure.

thanks @Inv4drZm i meant that solid axle jeeps and whatnot may break stuff but nothing comparable to front drive axles like the ifs.

the place i wheel isnt rock crawling but there are harsh rocks and edges, for example,
old broken down unmaintained roads/trails where the water holes youre going through hide vertical 10" asphalt curbs for a surprise on one side or the other. and basketball-volleyball sized boulder hidden under bog holes along with ruts from 40" tires digging holes. just haggard wheeling

ironically where i think the boot tore recently was in a comparable mild/smooth area but trail maintenance ahead of us was chainsawing limbs and branches leaving them on the trail and i dragged sticks and kicked up sticks that might have destroyed a boot...

Uber/Lyft is easy if the truck is down, learning to work on it yourself is the key. But for comparison, my indie shop charged me $665 to swap both OEM CVs with NAPA ones and I snagged the originals to re-boot myself as spares.

Edit: Also, might wanna relocate your rear diff breather if you haven't already.

i relocated me diff-breather to my taillight cubby. i have tote-lid splash shields (holding up great with new fasteners) and snorkel in future (maybe soon if these axles didnt pop up)
