How to disassemble the rear parking brake?

I’ve had a clanking noise coming from the drivers rear wheel, asked on here about it and figured it was the something with the parking brake and shoes/springs. I ordered the E-brake components kit and started getting into it, and I did find one of the spring retainers for the left shoe broke through and the spring was jingling around in there.

I need help with how to disassemble it, I tried searching about how to replace the components or shoes but found nothing. Any help would be awesome I dont want to just start pulling it apart.

Thats the little retainer that broke, I would really hate to tear all of it apart just to replace that little part.

youre smart to ask, and not to scare you but i have heard the pbrake assemblies are tough on these trucks. this is why im always so careful when i use mine, and we need them for MA inspection.

good luck!

Not sure if this will help, but I found this write up earlier that might be useful.

Thanks For the replies, yea who ever designed that was not thinking. Was able to get it by filling little notches in the retaining clips then using twine to compress them while slipping the shoe on. Probably the biggest PITA I’ve had to do on this truck.

Yea We had a pretty decent swell come through a couple weeks ago, don’t think I saw MA but I saw all the videos of New Jersey was crazy.
