Hood and hatch struts

So, the gas struts on my 2005 have finally given out.

Was looking at OEM, but holy @#$%^&*()!...$70-$90 each (for hood).

I see that aftermarket are significantly (drastically) cheaper...I'm currently looking at Monroes on RockAuto.com.

Just wanted to know what other's experiences were with aftermarket units. The OEM units lasted nearly 15 years.

Also looking for feedback on fitment...I've heard that some aftermarket units require some 'modifications'...

I got mine from amazon for $40. No modifications necessary. just popped the old ones out and new ones in. Took like 5 minutes. Been working fine for the last month or so. Cant say about the longevity yet.

I have been using these Tuff Support struts on my 2005 for about 10 months now. Really strong and great lift, only $32 great deal.

have to ask yourself if you are going to keep the 4runner another 15 years (then OEM)!

Thanks for all the feedback. Yes, I would like to go with OEM...I looked at them first and got the sticker shock. There is only so much to go around and I'd rather spend it on more important things in the near future...like new CV axles...
