Will other wheels with TPMS work automatically

I’m planning on purchasing a set of wheels and tires that came off a 2018 4R and the seller says it still has the TPMS on them. If I put these on my 4th gen, Will I need to do anything for my 4R to pick up on the sensors or will it just pick it up automatically?

Your truck can only bank so many linked sensors. Typically 5 for the set that comes with the truck.
You can either run a simple bypass procedure otherwise you will need to take them into a dealer/shop and have them link the new ones to your trucks ECU.

Ah...Didn’t think about the spare. Could I have a shop transfer my original TPMS onto the new wheel to match the spare’s TPMS or would that not even matter that the sensors don’t match?

My 4gen has 5 sensors. Tire shop should be able to upload the 5 TPMS sensor IDs you want to use, to the ECU, in under 5 minutes.. If the spare's sensor/tire have reached past 10 years you may want to replace both. Sensor batteries last ~10 years, spare tires dry rot.

a place like discount tire can match the TPMS to the truck. When I had new tires put on, I went ahead and ordered new TPMS for all 5 and they programmed them within a few minutes.

Speaking of spares. I bought all new Sensors TPMS's for my ORP wheels and new tires. Discount can't get them to link with the old spare tire TPMS that still works. Not sure what to do there, short of spending another $60+ for another sensor/dismount/mount of the spare.

From the little bit of digging I have done, the frequencies of the 4th and 5th gen TPMS are the same, so they should work once a shop programs the new sensors to match the originals.
