Electrical cleaning after water submersion

I sunk the front drivers side of my 4th gen this past weekend and had muddy water up to the seat for a little over 5 minutes.

I have pulled apart all the connections I could next to the foot rest (some I can't figure out how to disconnect) and am spraying them with electrical contact cleaner.

I am curious if anyone has any advice on the best way to clean these types of connections more throughly?

Don't forget to use dialectric grease when you put them back together. It's win win. It gives a good moisture barrier and makes it easier to pull apart later if needed

just remember, dielectric grease is not intended to be used on the actual metal to metal contacts, it does not conduct electricity. its only for the outer parts of the connector or spark plug boots to seal out moisture etc.

I've used it on every electrical connection I put back together for over a decade without issue. I've used it with the only purpose of keeping moisture out and making it easier to manipulate later. Are you saying it hurts the connections?

that's great you have used it without any issue, but if you are applying to the metal contacts that is not what its designed for. im not saying it "hurts" anything, just pointing out it is non conductive & can actually degrade the electrical connection.

i agree it helps with getting connections apart & is designed to seal out moisture when applied correctly. it can also be used for heat transfer application like a module in a distributor or even a computer CPU, but real heat sink paste is best for that.

heres all kinds of info on how to use it properly.
