belt tensioner R&R 2008 V8 4runner

Mr mechanic says "your belt tensioner has a bad bearing and needs to be replaced- and the belt = $600 please !? It's that expensive cause its a labor intensive job!
Anyone have experience with this prob and how to solve it? Easy ? hard? Time to fix?
What say you?

Timing belt tensioner and belt, time consuming, most likely...

Fan belt tensioner and belt, maybe an hour on the books...

I think he’s referring to the serpentine belt tensioner, which is normally the issue on these trucks. If only the bearing is bad, you can replace only the bearing or the entire pulley/bearing. If he’s saying the whole tensioner is bad and will not be alleviated by replacing the bearing, then the $600 bill is more reasonable as it’s a lot more work to replace the whole tensioner, not just the pulley/bearing.

If it's the drive belt tensioner, easy job - the bolt is threaded backwards, however haha.

Wow that's high.

I just did that exact job today on my v8 and the parts were 127.00 from toyota and my labor. It took me under 1 hr and most of that was belt install time.
