Cai
So I did a search and came up dry so if there is one please don’t kill me. I have an 06 Limited v8. About to do the exhaust (header back), timing belt, and upgrade all battery cables next month. Would like to add a CAI. Does anyone have any experience with the Volant intake out there? I’ve seen aFe, K&N and the TRD. The Volant resembles the aFe one but is only $289 vice the $400+ for the aFe. Anyone have this? Also what is the reason most tundra stuff isn’t compatible with ours? Is it a space issue? Thanks in advance.

Volant on an 04 V8, super loud and drones a lot, honestly would stick with stock intake. IMO

Be aware the K&N doesn't do a very good job in dusty conditions. Lot's of documentation on people finding dust/dirt past the filter

I have an AFE. Honestly there are a lot of pros to keeping the stock intake. Its quiter/smoother sounding, lets in less dirt if you keep the paper filter in, same air intake temperatures, and its free.

Seems like I’ll be saving money and keeping the stick element. Thank you for all of your input!

Yup, not sure why people still buy K&N filters and drop into their stock airbox. Dyno proven to make zero power gains and the reason it requires oil is because the filter medium itself does a crap job of filtering.

K&N Air Filter Review - Debunking the Myths (and why OEM is better)

In 60 minutes the AC Filter accumulated 574gms of dirt and passed only 0.4gms. After only 24 minutes the K&N had accumulated 221gms of dirt but passed 7.0gms.
Compared to the AC, the K&N “plugged up” nearly 3 times faster, passed 18 times more dirt and captured 37% less dirt. See the data tables for a complete summary of these comparisons.

So it's a $45 placebo for you, which is fair if it makes you happy. I'm just saying for those who prefer a more scientific approach to read the article.

No, I'm saying the reason it requires oil is BECAUSE the filter is terrible. The filter medium can't capture smaller particles so it depends on the oil to do so.

What the results say is that it's terrible even with the oil. You can have a good filtering oiled filter.

If that's how a filter is designed, I see no problem with it. Apparently, the K&N can't even do that.

My Volant only drones when I open the throttle, at cruising speeds in town/highway I don't really notice it. I feels a bit more responsive then stock, I really like the sound it gives off on hard acceleration (makes it sound like a v8) and that causes mpg's to suffer.
