I had that happen up north with a lot of salt and corrosion

I did an internal pipe fitting and then used exhaust clamps on the outside.

Mine was more of a temporary fix to get it through state inspection. Eventually the frame rusted through.

Good luck with repair.

Maybe stick a pipe inside with the same outside diameter as the insider diameter of the exhaust and clamp it down....

"Rust never sleeps."

Would putting a slightly bigger diameter over it and then clamping as well as exhaust “tape” or the film you heat gun on to not possibly leak and have a more firm connection

Exhaust clamp might work. It looks straight

Get a Walker cat-back and tail pipe. It was less than $300 in 2017 for a V8 and fits perfect, goes on in half an hour.

Wish I could do that but previous guy welded this part together so I would have to replace almost the entire exhaust

Sadly, almost anything you do will not last without replacing the pipes. If you are looking to get through the winter then measure the ID of both pipes then go to your local auto parts store and get a 3" long pipe with the same OD of what you measured. Stick it in each pipe and put a pipe clamp on each pipe over where the 3" piece is. That should last awhile and should be less than a $20 to do.

I would not go with any quick half way fix's with your exhaust system, if it leaks into your 4Runner it might not have a good ending.
You need it fixed right.

Sounds like a good price for what you got.
