This is just a guess here but I would say the Gibson muffler is probably just as restrictive as the stock muffler. Gibson uses a louvered tube through the center (in comparison to just a perforated tube) which isn't very efficient in terms of flow from what I've heard.
No idea what Magnaflow or others use in their catback mufflers.
I would consider having a shop build it and either match up to the factory tailpipe or dump it before the axle if the tailpipe is all rusted out. It would just be a straight section of pipe with a muffler of your choice welded on so relatively simple.

Honestly, the drone is there, but it's not horrible. At 70, my Ridge Grapplers are louder than the exhaust drone.
Find someone on ebay with it for sale that has a make an offer option, and low ball them by like $200. Saw one listed for $700, offered $400, and got it for $440 with free shipping.
Bonus, imo it's hands down the best looking cat back out there. Gibson side exit looks goofy as hell with the big ass tips, and the whistling I've read about. Magnaflow has none of those problems.
See my signature for the link to the Magnaflow site for the system for our trucks and also the link to the resonator I'm using.

Holy cow that's expensive.....even at $400....can you post sound clips? Thinking about just doing the super 50 like mentioned above. Seems to be the best price option so far.

I can, but it won't happen today. Dumping rain out, so might get some time outside tomorrow to take a video.

I am running LT's, Y pipe & the Gibson ss rear exit.
I installed the gibson 1st & it was a pleasant improvement in sound quality. Not loud but more throaty. Then I installed the LT's & Y pipe. Both my wife & I think it's quieter at 55 mph cruise than before, but step on the load pedal & it starts to sound a little pissed off. You definitely can feel a difference in performance. The hot rodder in me would have liked the Gibson to have been a 3" system instead of 2.5"but I honestly don't think it needs to be any bigger.

Been doing a little more thinking/research about what I’ll do when it’s time for my DT LTs. I want to keep it quiet while cruising/on the highway.
Anyway I have a rough idea for true dual - have the headers hit a fab’d 2.5” x-pipe and then through the longest 2.5” flow-through pair mufflers I can find (Magnaflow makes a 6” diameter x 27” long round one that should work) with some Helmholtz j-pipes to cut drone and route both tail pipes either out the passenger side either in front or behind the rear wheel.
Should be pretty quiet but loud on throttle I’m thinking. Anyone have any input?

I have the same setup you describe, except with an equal length x pipe and twin 6"x18" Magnaflows. I would say my setup is quiet on the interstate but I have large mud terrain tires that drown out a lot, and 4.88 gears which throw off rpms from stock gearing. For example it drones quite a bit at 60mph but not 70-80.
Without cats, its loud, but your 27" mufflers might help.
Check out my youtube for videos of my setups, I've been through a couple:

Catless makes it smell like an old truck or atv, and added rasp. I might be adding two cats to deal with the smell, but I don't mind the rasp.

I love my Gibson exhaust, perfect exhaust notes. While cruising its not droning you out and when you open up the throttle you get to hear the V8 come alive.

I wonder if the Helmholtz resonators would remove your 60 mph drone - kinda why I wanted to try them out.
Your setup def sounds awesome that’s for sure, but getting someone to fab an equal length x-pipe sounds...expensive lol. It might be easier (cheaper) to have someone fab up a x-pipe based on the typical y-pipe design (like URD for reference) and run the long mufflers after. If there’s any rasp I don’t like I could always add a couple tiny mufflers stuff the end to cut it down but I’d have to see how loud this would be I guess. Stock-ish highway exhaust noise would be ideal but I could live with a little...I just hate drone.

I guess my real question is, would a really short one work in place of a x-pipe or should I just stick to my original x-pipe to dual long mufflers idea? I'm thinking the original idea would likely be quieter due to more clearance for dual long ass mufflers haha.

Been awhile since Ive been up here. Ended up getting DT long tubes installed along with their Ypipe (which has the rattle and is getting warranty replaced), for a muffler Im using the flowmaster super 50 delta flow. Its plenty loud.

I don't have any experience with those x pipes and don't know how much quieter they are vs a longer muffler. But I could see where a straight-through muffler, at a certain point, longer doesn't mean much quieter and maybe mixing it up a little with an x pipe 'muffler' might help sound more.
I've only gone from a single muffler system to a dual muffler system using 3 of the same mufflers. I haven't played around with length yet.
