Question Candles for heating while sleeping inside?

Looking for heating ideas for sleeping inside an SUV and came across an old thread that suggested using candles. While there are some that say they work great, there are also others that are against it due to monoxide that it emits. What is the verdict on this? And ive also read some specifying Tea candles... Are Tea candles safer for this purpose?

This seems like it would heat a small space and can be suspended from a hook. Terra Cotta Space Heater | Diy, Easy diy, Terracotta

Fire burns up oxygen, so you could only do it with a window open, forfeiting any heat you'd product I'd say. Still not a good idea for an open flame inside a closed space.

Any candle/s will heat a small space, but it will also burn oxygen we so desperately need to live. There are a few ways to adapt a candle to heat more efficiently utilizing a clay pot, but it will still burn oxygen so your vehicle will need to be well ventilated.

I may try to make one of the clay pot heaters that use a candle but create a way to fuel its oxygen from outside.

Just stick a rock on the fire and bring it in with you.

Open flame, closed space, sleeping above a fuel tank, wrapped up in a sleeping bag, doors probably locked.....does this seem safe to you?

Just get a warmer sleeping bag.

Buy a nice high quality goose down (not duck down) sleeping bag from Western Mountaineering or Feathered Friends. Buy once and sleep warm forever.

Candles are common as a last resort emergency warmth source for cavers.

Another option is boiling water and putting it in a nalgene. Sleep with it between you legs for added heat. (aka beaver bottle).

I would avoid open flame.

12 volt heated blankets are widely available. This is what I use / recommend.

not just no but hell no

candles put out carbon monoxide while depleting the oxygen in the space

you are committing suicide if you do this

if you need extra heat get battery pocket heater or battery heated socks

you could also put in a 12v to 110v converter to plug in an electric blanket if need be

bottom line is the only safe heat is electric or battery power heat

If you're dead set on a heater I'd check out this page

Otherwise I agree with others on spending on a really good sleeping bag,

I thought of this post when I read about the death of two family members in a tent. Very sad.

A variation on this theme? Or a rocket stove approach?

This seems pretty dangerous. Personally not a fan of open flames in the vehicle. I'd just run an electric blanket or toss in a few hand warmers in my sleeping bag if its too cold. Or layer up.
