If you read what he posted, he stated to use the CORRECT fluids. Zerex Asian is the CORRECT fluid for the vehicle. I use it in my 2003 4R V8 and I use it in my 1999 Tacoma with the 3.4L. It is correct for BOTH vehicles. Same with oil. I use Shell Rotella T6 in both vehicles and they are running perfectly. The Tacoma has almost 330k miles and the 4R has 282k miles.
You can safely use cheaper equivalents to what the factory recommends, you aren't going to destroy the engine. Don't be like that other guy and the tires....

I agree that the Zerex Asian is a perfect replacement for the Toyota Long Life coolant, if you read the ingredients they are the same, the Zerex is not a cheap fluid, the Zerezx is normally price whereas the Toyota fluid is marked way up as is all car manufacturer brands are, just because the Zerex costs less doesn't make it an inferior product.
Oil is the same as the coolant marked up from other quality brands.
The one item in this discussion I do agree using the Toyota brand for is the filter, it's surprisingly less expensive than any other filter and is of higher quality from all the test results I have seen than most if not all the others out there.

you have old Toyota vehicles in a hot climate.. summer temps 110-120F.. rotella T6 40w oil should work in the hot desert..
in my area not gonna work up in the cold northeast .. I switched to the Toyota 0-20wt SN PLUS and it works perfectly than the mobil synthetic 0-20wt .. engine very quiet and a couple of MPG gain..
I use rotella T5 15-40wt in my 1978 mercrusier inboard boat engine .. has flat tappets .. works like new very quiet.. I cannot use new oils made today have to use diesel engine oil .. has more additives to prevent wear ,noise, and corrosion ..
using the wrong coolant in a vehicle can cause internal damage , metals used today vehicles is a problem or mixing different chemicals can cause coolant failures..
some have changed to a different coolant .. they flushed out the system, used an acid cleaner to remove all old coolant.
toyota coolant lasts 10 yrs 120K miles ..made specifically for my 2016 runner.
when you buy a new vehicle write down the manufacturer spec # for the proper fluid it is tricky..then check out if Zerex product has the spec# on your new vehicle then it is the correct fluid...
I looked up mobil 1 advanced engine oil and it did not have the toyota spec #.. but it did have the GM spec #

My daughter has a 2013 Tacoma and I put the same fluids in that that I do in both my Toyotas. You can be anal as much as you want about what you are running in your vehicles but don't go telling people they are posting the incorrect fluids just because you don't agree with it.
@ firebirdguy
did not post anything about using the incorrect fluids, nor have I. Adjust your fluid for whatever climate you are in, that doesn't make what we have posted incorrect. Stop being a muffdogg.

use the proper fluids as your vehicle manufacturer states. look up the spec # on the proper fluid to use.
I am not telling members to use fluids, NOT of the manufacturer spec #,,,.
SOME on the FORUMS will cause vehicles to fail and cost a load of $$$ .because they stated it is a much cheaper fluid .
be careful do the work and be anal on how to properly keep it running.
one vehicle I owned from day one was a 1983 sedan . ran it 380,000 miles 17 yrs then I sold it for $1700. no major work just brakes/tires/one water pump..that was it !

Mobil makes the oil for Toyota I believe so unless Mobil puts in radically different additives for Toyota which they probably do not, you could go with Mobil 1 Synthetic. Just change your oil regularly and use a quality oil filter. I have to believe Mobil 1 would be cheaper than Toyota branded oil. Costco has it for $28 a case right now and Walmart sells it for 25.47 a 5 Qt Jug. If you go to an Oil Change place Mobil 1 will probably be expensive.

Yes Mobil does make Toyota oil and yes they do put an insane additive package in it unlike any other oil on the market. The package in Toyota oil is literally 10+ times what you get from the off the shelf version. The Moly content is through the roof which is why the engines run so much quieter when using Toyota oil.

you make a lot of incorrect assumptions... including my age based on an accurate comment i posted.
i never said to use the WRONG fluids on the cheap. if its rated by the manufacturer for use in that vehicle then its ok to use, such as valvoline maxlife trans fluid instead of toyota WS. i simply suggested a brand of coolant & mentioned it was cheaper than overpriced toyota stuff at a dealership.

What's the model number? I have seen some discussion of a tall filter and a short filter. Any thoughts on using one vs. the other?

I do the oil changes and I give it 45min for oil to drain.. no debris in the oil filter.. very hard to read the stick of oil level ,very clear oil .no oil drop on the 7K oil changes.

zomg! our 4TH GEN 4Runners aren't spec'd for the new 0w-20 weight moly magic oil! Be careful gaiz!

The OEM filter is fine...I use the higher capacity (slightly longer), longer drain interval Fram XG3600. Upside too is that the Fram Ultra is 99% efficient at 20-microns - whereas I believe the OEM one is 50% efficient at 20-microns. Someone over on BITOG even cut apart a Fram Ultra and a TRD (made by Champion) filter to compare.

i have only used the short filter, the part number is 90915-YZZD3 , it fits both the V8 and the V6.

That's actually the long filter, unless there is a longer one than that. The spec'd one for my 3.4L Tacoma uses the shorter version of the YZZD3. I just use the YZZD3 on both motors to keep it simple.
