Running board wiring

Just installed some Westin running boards with lighting, but the electrical connectors do not match up. What are my options to connect the electrical drop down from my 2006 4Runner to the recently installed lighted Westin running boards? I assume that I can run to a local hardware store and get the connectors, run a few wires, and connect the two. Would this work? What about waterproofing?

Thanks for the help.

Either go to a junk yard and cut off the correct connectors so you can solder them onto the new running board wiring or just cut the old connectors off and do the same on the truck side. You have to solder them or the splice will corrode under there. Heat shrink over the solder joints. There's also self sealing solder type connections like in the link below. Make sure there's no green crustys in the copper wire or the solder won't take.

Finding the correct Toyota connector would probably be tough.

Just cut off both ends and use your own connector… both the Delphi metri pack and Deutsch connectors are widely available and easy to use.

If you have no plans of removing / reinstalling the running boards often just use a butt splice connector… I recommend one of those adhesive lined heat shrink butt connectors. Super-fast and easy waterproof connection. I use them a lot and love em.
